Caught-on-camera court outburst shows crazed murderer shouting at victim’s widow

There are few things more despicable than a criminal who doesn’t feel remorse for their actions, except, maybe, a criminal screaming in the face of his victim’s widow.

That’s exactly what happened when a Florida man’s cruelty once again overflowed, this time in the courtroom as he was sentenced to life in prison for murder. The killer, Omar Rodriguez, was convicted of second-degree murder and aggravated assault in the 2015 killing of his neighbor, Jose Rey. During the reading of a statement by Rey’s wife, Lissette, Rodriguez rudely interrupted her, disparaging her late husband and mocking her loss.

“The coward was your husband,” the murderer yelled at the woman. “That’s why I killed him … he cried like a baby.”

Law enforcement removed the killer from the room as he continued to shout at the grieving widow. Just before the shocking display of inhumanity, Lissette had begged the judge to throw the book at Rodriguez.

“I beg Your Honor, the harshest sentence imposed to the coward, the murderer,” she said.

Once the disgraceful killer was drug from the courtroom, she finished her statement and called him “pond scum” for good measure.

“I wish though, the death sentence would have been on the table, but at the end of the day, Mr. Rodriguez will continue to see his family, they will be able to see him, I’ll never get to see my husband again. I wasn’t listening to exactly what he was saying, I was tuning him out, I was just reading my thoughts. His words are irrelevant. He is irrelevant in my life right now. He’s pond scum.”

Rodriguez, who is 75, will spend the rest of his life behind bars for murdering Rey. The incident began when Rey and Rodriguez’s son got into a verbal altercation over the victim’s dog defecating on the man’s lawn. Neighbors report hearing the squabble, but Rey left the location and returned his dog to the house before continuing his walk with Lissette. At that point, the murderer confronted them with a gun, firing three shots at the deceased and threatening the widow. Rey would succumb to his injuries a week later.

Rodriguez attempted to use Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law as a defense, but it was quickly determined that this did not have any of the markers of a self-defense case.
