A Super Bowl champion and MVP sounded off on the Senate race in Texas with an endorsement and a warning about the candidate “who’s gonna go with the way the wind flows.”
Regardless of current polling, voter turnout ultimately remains the deciding factor in free and fair elections. So, while metrics present Texas state Rep. James Talarico (D) with an edge over Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R), Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy White reaffirmed his support for the latter, who’s “with the people” while slamming the Democrat “we can’t trust.”
During an interview with OutKick’s Jackson Thompson, the defensive tackle with the Dallas Cowboys from 1975-1988 agreed when asked if Talarico is “too woke” for the Lone Star State, saying, “I don’t want to go into each specific thing, but, yeah … he’s different than what I think is right.”
“If this guy gets elected in Texas, I’m gonna pull my hair out, and I don’t have many left. So, we’ve got to get out and vote so this doesn’t happen,” he added, having said of the state’s top cop, “I know Ken Paxton. I know he’s going to do what he says he’s going to do. I know he’s going to go to work every day, and he’s going to help the people of Texas. This other guy, I don’t know him. But I hear what he says, and it’s different from what I believe.”
Dallas Cowboys Hall of Famer Randy White believes James Talarico is too woke and says Texas ‘can’t trust him,’ as the Democrat Senate candidate has flip-flopped on issues like gender affirming care for minors and trans athletes in women’s sports.

While Talarico has attempted to walk back his support for gender ideology, including genital mutilation surgeries for kids and allowing boys in girls’ spaces, White leveraged this as evidence that the lawmaker is willing to say whatever he needs to to get elected.
“I think that’s a sign that we can’t trust him. He’s gonna go with the way the wind flows, whatever he feels like is the best thing for him and what his goals are, he’s gonna do it. And we don’t need somebody like that,” the former NFL player told OutKick. “We need somebody like Ken Paxton that is going to stick to his guns, is not afraid to stand up for what he believes is right because he’s been around, he’s out there with the people and he knows what the people want.”
In addition to criticism for the self-styled Christian recently accused of “butchering the Bible,” White spoke highly of the attorney general, insisting, “Ken Paxton will get in there and get things done. He’s not afraid.”
“That’s one thing I really like about Ken. He will get in there and say what needs to be said. He doesn’t hold back. He tells the truth,” argued the career Cowboy. “He’s not trying to win a popularity contest when he’s working. It’s what’s right for the people.”
“I got to know Ken as a person, and I think he is a super person. I like his attitude, the things that he does, the way he does them,” added White, who came to know the Senate hopeful in part as an ambassador to the National Child Identification Program.
“He is a big supporter of the Child ID program, which is something I’m a big supporter of — helping kids,” he explained of the program that provides families with kits to store identifying information for their children — such as DNA and fingerprints — at home in case a tragic need arises.
The former NFL player also raised his personal connection to the opioid crisis, having lost his son-in-law to an accidental overdose, which led to involvement in a public service announcement for Paxton’s office in 2024.
As for President Donald Trump, whose efforts in the Middle East are credited with spoiling his own economic policies for the time being with high fuel prices and subsequently impacting polling — giving an edge to the likes of Talarico, where a New York Times/Siena poll showed him 51-45% over Paxton — White remained “1,000%” behind the chief executive.
Accepting the current high gas prices in exchange for “saving the world,” he said, “It’s just something that’s part of the process of getting America back where it needs to be and making it safe.”
Meanwhile, Paxton offered similar words of praise in response to the footballer’s support, posting on X, “Randy White is legend on and off the field. This election is too important for anyone to stay on the sidelines.”
