Crenshaw digs in on $40B Ukraine bill, says opponents are ‘dead wrong’

Fresh off a Twitter spanking from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) over his vote to send $40 billion to Ukraine, Representative Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) has doubled down on his stance, claiming that those Republicans who oppose the enormous foreign aid package are “dead wrong.”

Joined Thursday on his podcast, “Hold These Truths,” by Congressmen Mike Gallagher (R-WI) and Mike Waltz (R-FL), Crenshaw revealed his cynicism towards the “wing” of the GOP that opposes sending billions to Ukraine when mothers in the United States are unable to find baby formula and can’t afford the gas to go searching for it.

Crenshaw noted that the media is calling “the wing of the party that’s just completely against any kind of aid … pro Russia,” and said he is “more cynical” than his guests about the subject.

“I think a lot of them are not pro Russia,” Crenshaw said. “We have colleagues who I think earnestly believe, I won’t name names, but they earnestly, ’cause I’ve seen them say this, earnestly believe that we’re gonna start a war with Russia if we vote on aid to Ukraine.”

“I think they are dead wrong,” Crenshaw stated. “I mean, it’s completely wrong. Um, it hasn’t happened yet. It won’t happen soon.”

“Russia has no bandwidth to just start a war with us though, so they’re wrong, but maybe they’re making that argument in earnest,” he continued. “But the problem is, is when you start making other arguments, like, like, well, the Ukrainians are just neo-Nazis and we’re sending weapons to neo-Nazis or, or look at these Biolabs. Of course, Russia had to invade because the U.S. was apparently funding Biolab weapons in Ukraine.”

“The Biolabs thing is completely untrue,” Crenshaw assured listeners. “That’s part of a longstanding program, right? That, that is actually meant to keep an eye on these things.”

There are many ways to unpack Crenshaw’s comments.

One might begin by pointing out comments made Friday by House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD), who claimed it is “unfortunate” to criticize President Joe Biden “in a time of war.”

Lest anyone think it was simply a slip of the tongue, Hoyer repeated the statement moments later.

“I know there’s a lot of politics here,” Hoyer said. “But we’re at war.”

One could point Crenshaw to mainstream media’s opinion of Ukraine’s Azov Battalion prior to Russian Vladimir Putin’s invasion of the nation in February and ask him if he could please explain the dramatic shift in the narrative.

One might even ask Crenshaw if he would care to debate Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Ukrainian biolabs.

But in the end, it may just be easier to refer the Texan Representative back to his recent clash with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.

As American Wire reported, Crenshaw and Greene went at each other in a series of tweets about the Ukraine aid package, during which Crenshaw — in stark contrast to his claim that he doesn’t believe those who oppose the bill are “pro Russia” — asked MTG if she was “still going after that slot on Russia Today.”

The attempt to “own” Greene came when the feisty Representative slammed Crenshaw with questions he apparently did not wish to answer.

“So you think we are funding a proxy war with Russia?” Greene asked. “You speak as if Ukrainian lives should be thrown away, as if they have no value. Just used and thrown away.”

“For your proxy war?” she pressed. “How does that help Americans? How does any of this help?”
