Democrats roll out another ‘trust me, Republicans told me’ story

One claim begot another as anticipation of President Donald Trump’s speech to the nation found a Democrat senator alleging beliefs shared by GOP peers about their leader “in private.”

Looking ahead to Thursday, reports indicated that the president was expected to address newly declassified intelligence reports related to the 2020 election. Amid speculation this would include allegations that first-term Georgia Democratic Sens. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff would be deemed illegitimate, the latter claimed most congressional Republicans believe Trump “has lost it.”

Speaking with the press outside the U.S. Capitol, the senator was asked by a reporter, “What do you say to your Republican colleagues who may agree with the president on this?”

“I don’t know of Republican colleagues who agree with the president on this. Privately, most elected Republicans in this building think the president has lost it and is dooming them to dismal losses this fall,” insisted Ossoff.

While the senator attempted to cut the questioning there, another reporter asked about his Republican opponent, “Mike Collins agrees with them, though. Mike Collins agrees with them that the election was stolen.”

“Let’s see how Mike Collins handles this now. Mike Collins launched his general election campaign doubling down on 2020 election denialism. Now he not only has to defend doubling health insurance premiums for more than a million Georgians, he has to defend these conspiracy theories about the 2020 election that Georgia voters have rejected time and time again,” responded Ossoff who then walked away.

Following an early report about the expected content of Trump’s Thursday speech to the nation, which the chief executive reiterated Tuesday from the Oval Office would be “really, really big news” concerning “free and fair elections,” Ossoff issued a statement in line with a trending talking point from the left that the president would be telling “bizarre new lies.”

“Donald Trump’s spiral continues. The failed president, pocketing billions as he drives up prices, is afraid to lose the midterms,” said the senator. “So he will reheat debunked election conspiracy theories and tell bizarre new lies to deny his 2020 defeat and attack voting rights.”

In addition to corporate media figures, New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D) similarly fed the narrative that Trump would be using his platform to peddle falsehoods, leading her to petition broadcasters to censor the leader of the free world.

“I don’t think we should be contributing to any platforming of, of, of lies about our election, and so I think that, you know, I mean, many of these, many news outlets often may receive transcripts and I think that we have an ethical obligation to not air things that undermine our elections that are not rooted in evidence and fact,” she told Meidas Touch reporter Pablos Manríquez who’d referred to the address as a “rant to spew election conspiracy theories.”

Ocasio-Cortez concluded, “And so, you know, of course it depends on the contents of this speech, but that’s my take on it.”
