DeSantis disappoints critics with scoop on his controversial cowboy boots

There aren’t many who can go toe-to-toe with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) when it comes to talking policy.

A graduate of Yale University and Harvard Law, the former U.S. Navy JAG officer is instead hit with petty issues like his height or whether he wears lifts in his trademark boots, the latter being a rumor brought to life in the dark recesses of the world wide web.

Not afraid to sit down with anyone, DeSantis was interviewed by podcaster Patrick Bet-David, who opted to highlight images from a viral TikTok video claiming DeSantis was “wearing hidden heels” inside his boots, complete with badly fabricated photos to supposedly confirm the accusation.

“I’ve seen you walk with these boots. Go on and play this clip,” Bet-David said, instructing his producer to run the video. “This on TikTok went viral. It doesn’t have a million views. It doesn’t have, you know, 10 million views. This thing’s got 1.2 million likes. And some people are wondering…”

DeSantis responded by saying nonchalantly that he had not seen the video

“They’ve not shown this to you, ok,” the podcast host countered. “What they’re trying to say with this, is that in your boots, you have heels.”

“No, no, those are just standard off-the-rack, Lucchese,” the GOP presidential candidate replied, naming a popular cowboy boot brand.

This prompted Bet-David to ask, “How tall are you, Governor? How tall are you?”

When DeSantis told him he was five-eleven, Bet-David asked, “Why don’t you wear tennis shoes and dress shoes?”

“I do wear tennis shoes when I work out,” DeSantis told him.

Bet-David responded to that with a stunt that many saw as an attempt to help Donald Trump, pulling out a shoe box and presenting it to his gift.

Clever by half, DeSantis shut down Bet-David’s antics by saying, “I don’t accept gifts. I can’t accept that.”

Putting it all into perspective, DeSantis added, “And so what we’re doing is, really I think doing the issues, the leadership, people that are poking at you for different things. That’s fine, but ultimately that is not – I think it’s a sign of strength.”
