The honeymoon stage is officially over, with the Democratic National Committee voting to void Vice Chair David Hogg’s election.
Despite the left embracing the anti-gun darling in the wake of the tragic Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, it appears that the love affair was not to last. Following his election to the DNC role, Hogg wasted no time criticizing his own party on a multitude of issues. This type of political backstabbing didn’t sit well with higher-ups, who fled to the media to bash the young progressive. On Monday, they took their displeasure one step further by voting to void his election as vice chair of the DNC.
This move was based on a procedural challenge brought in February that alleges Hogg and others were improperly elected to their positions, and a vote will be held later this year regarding whether to remove Hogg from the chair forcefully.
According to Politico, Hogg released a statement following the vote that made it clear he wasn’t about to apologize for his behavior.
“[It’s] impossible to ignore the broader context of my work to reform the party, which loomed large over this vote. The DNC has pledged to remove me, and this vote has provided an avenue to fast-track that effort,” he said.
Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta was also ousted as DNC vice chair on Monday, but credentials committee member and daughter of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Christine Pelosi, claims the vote doesn’t have anything to do with how the two members performed in their roles.
“First, I want to say clearly and explicitly that this decision has nothing to do with the service of any DNC officer, especially [Hogg] or [Kenyatta]. This is about a violation of parliamentary procedure that was raised in a challenge filed back in February by another candidate for Vice Chair,” she said.
“I think I speak for all of us on the Committee when I say I hope both of these talented individuals put their names on the ballot again. We’ll move fast to get this resolved. I have total faith in our DNC members to review this issue and vote their conscience,” the statement continued.
However, it’s difficult to believe that the party that has suffered such a large loss of confidence following the 2024 isn’t at least a little upset with some of the statements Hogg has made to the media since his election.
As BizPac Review previously reported, the vice chair specifically took issue with the Democratic Party’s messaging on topics such as age, claiming that the current trajectory imperils the party’s shot at long-term relevance as a “true opposition party.”
“So clearly something is not going right here. And sometimes it’s not just a messaging problem that you have, it’s a broader messenger problem that you have in the first place. What we’re trying to do is bring in some new messengers that are not only more equipped to fight in this moment against Donald Trump and build the Democratic party into being a true opposition party,” he said during a segment on MSNBC. “We’re also trying to make sure that we’re giving voters the best options that they can in our safer blue districts while supporting candidates that are in purple districts at the same time, because we want to defeat Republicans, obviously.”
He argues that Democrats in solidly blue districts aren’t fighting like their political careers depend on it, and their voters are suffering because of it.
“What it looks like is making sure, one, that they’re actually able to show up at their committee hearings, making sure that they’re, for one, showing up at town halls and they’re talking to their constituents about what is going on in their districts. But for each candidate or for each elected official, it looks different, right? And let me be clear, I’m not just saying, well, if you’re above a certain age, you shouldn’t be there. Unfortunately, sucking is something that is not limited to being above a certain age, right?”
He then pushed for younger elected officials to take the reins of the party and push the old guard to the side.
“What we’re talking about is making sure that there are people that are here ready to fight and meet this moment and to build the future of the Democratic party in our safer blue seats, where we see incredible young people like Congressman Maxwell Frost, who’ve been elected, people like AOC and others,” he said.
When asked what message he would like to see dominate in this moment, Hogg shilled two age-old leftist talking points.
“Well, one, I think that there are two, there are really two messages that I believe that we need to be pushing this election cycle more than anything else. One is really embodied well by our former FTC chair, Lena Khan, who has gone out to repeatedly talked about going after special interests to lower costs for the American people. And two, I think we need to talk about a broader anti-corruption message across the board.”
