If cringe was a speaker, you can bet that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) would turn it up to eleven, much to the delight of popcorn-popping Twitter users who revel in mocking her eye-rolling stands against cow farts and for bad economic policies.
The progressive Squad cheerleader sparked an inferno of insults this week when she claimed that gas stoves are tied to cognitive decline in the wake of a study that linked the appliances to childhood asthma and reports that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission was looking to ban them.

U.S. Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas) defiantly dared “the maniacs in the White House” to just try and take his gas stove, exclaiming, “they can pry it from my cold dead hands.”
Ocasio-Cortez quote-tweeted him and asked, “Did you know that ongoing exposure to NO2 from gas stoves is linked to reduced cognitive performance?”

Twitter users were quick to point out that the former bartender has posted videos of herself cooking on a gas stove.

Now, you would think that would have shamed the congresswoman into silence — especially as it was paired with a heavy helping of snarky replies — but this is AOC we’re talking about, and she never relinquishes a spotlight without first punching herself — metaphorically, at least — in the head for all to see.
She took to Instagram with a newly-shot video to explain why owning a gas stove doesn’t make her a hypocrite.

“I do think it’s funny the absolute, utter Republican meltdown where they’re like ‘you can take my gas stove from my cold dead hands,’ or, ‘how dare you talk about gas stoves, you have a gas stove,’” she began.
“First of all, I rent, period,” she explained. “Second of all, it doesn’t even matter. Because, by that logic, these are the same people who would have said we should have never gotten rid of leaded gasoline just because someone may have driven a gasoline car.”
Ocasio-Cortez then went on to discuss The Science.
“Science evolves and gives us new knowledge with time,” she said. “There is very concerning science about some of the emissions from gas stoves, especially around the cognitive development of young children, asthma, cancer, et cetera.”
According to Fox News, Ocasio-Cortez is repeating a claim “that has dominated the mainstream media but appears to have little actual evidence backing it up.”
“A Consumer Product Safety Commission spokesperson told Fox News Digital that there ‘is a significant body of work’ on the supposed danger of gas stoves, but refused to cite any sources,” the outlet reports.
But never mind that. AOC just wants Republicans to chill.
“This is a decision about what may be sold and regulations in the far future. Okay? So everyone just take the temperature down a little bit,” she ordered Republicans. “No secret government agency is going to bust down your door and take your gas stove away.”
If she thought filming herself in extreme close-up conditions would make folks listen, she was sorely mistaken.
Most found her rant to be further proof of her ignorance.

“Imagine being a member of Congress and making a video where you’re bringing your phone to your eye and then back out, and thinking people take you seriously??” marveled one Twitter user.
“If I took this video in a time machine to 30 years ago, and told people this is a Congresswoman from the future, nobody would believe me,” another quipped.
“How embarrassing,” noted a third.

Others saw it as indicative of the problems with “progressivism.”
“This is one of the creepiest parts of modern progressivism,” tweeted National Review writer Charles C. W. Cooke. “AOC had never tweeted about stoves before yesterday, but, when she did for the first time, her tone was one of weary condescension toward the bitter-enders whom she’s been trying to inform for years. It’s cultish.”

And still others had no words for AOC, opting instead to respond with brutal memes.

But at the heart of the issue, other Twitter users noted is the Green Queen’s flawed logic.
“So by her logic we should get rid of our gas stoves and use electric ones powered by coal,” one user wrote. “I am fine with that I guess. Just odd coming from a climate alarmist.”
