‘Fake drama’: NYC teen accused of shoving woman, 68, off church steps arrested – tries to hang himself

The underage thug who pushed a woman off the top step of a church stairway has tried to commit suicide after being arrested by the police.

“Jayvaun Prince, 16 — who was arrested Thursday in the brutal mugging of 68-year-old Irene Tahliambouris — took his shirt off and wrapped it around his neck inside the NYPD’s 107th Precinct stationhouse,” the New York Post has confirmed via sources.

“He was brought out in a stretcher and hospitalized, but was not seriously injured, the sources said,” according to the Post.

Responding to the reports of his attempted suicide, some critics alleged that he’d tried to kill himself for the sympathy.

Other critics meanwhile expressed disappointment that he hadn’t succeeded in killing himself and that the police had sought to stop him from hurting himself.

Prince was formally arraigned in a juvenile court on Friday after being charged with robbery and grand larceny for the April 7th attack on Tahliambouris.

As previously reported, as Tahliambouris was climbing the outside stairs of the Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Queens, Prince rushed up to the top step and then pushed her down.

Tahliambouris hit the ground below landing on her head, after which Prince robbed her as she lay there motionless, first stealing her purse and then later her 2006 Nissan Altima.

“Horrible. I could not believe my eyes. Seeing what he did to this lady,” Rev. Konstantinos Kalogridis of St. Demetrios later told reporters. “She was coming to church to pray, to participate. I don’t know what kind of a person this is but evil. Pure evil.”

He added that it was a miracle that she survived.

“She is in stable condition,” he said. “She is such a sweet lady. She is a very humble low-key person.”

Thankfully Prince’s actions against her were caught on surveillance camera.

Prince reportedly also faces charges for robbing another woman inside an apartment building and then feeling in her car earlier this month. He was previously arrested nine times for other crimes but also let out.

“The viciousness with which the defendant is accused of having committed the robbery at the church struck the city at its core,” Queens  District Attorney Melinda Katz said in a statement about Prince’s latest attack on women.

“As alleged, he chose to rob an elderly woman by first pushing her down the stairs and then proceeded to take her purse and leave her to suffer while he took off in her car. He will now have to answer for the serious charges levied against him by my Office,” Katz added.
