FBI’s claim that they thwarted a violent Halloween terror attack is being challenged

A Michigan defense attorney is challenging the FBI’s claim that they thwarted a violent Halloween terror attack.

Kash Patel announced the arrest of several young men on Friday, claiming that the group had been planning a “potential terrorist attack.” He did not provide any additional details at the time, but said more information would be forthcoming.

Look:

“This morning, the FBI thwarted a potential terrorist attack and arrested multiple subjects in Michigan who were allegedly plotting a violent attack over Halloween weekend. More details to come. Thanks to the men and women of the FBI and law enforcement everywhere standing guard 24/7 and crushing our mission to defend the homeland,” he wrote in a post on X.”

Amir Makled is serving as the lawyer for one of the men arrested, and says that while he also does not have a lot of information about the arrest, he does not expect any charges to be filed against his Dearborn, Michigan client.

“I don’t know where this hysteria and this fearmongering came from,” he told the Associated Press. “If these young men were on forums that they should not have been on or things of that nature, then we’ll have to wait and see. But I don’t believe that there’s anything illegal about any of the activity they were doing.”

Two anonymous people who had been briefed on the case told the AP that there is an investigation into the use of online chat rooms.

“They said the group of men — which Makled described as an all-male group of U.S. citizens, who are ‘gamers’ and range from 16 to 20 years old — discussed carrying out an attack around Halloween, referring to it as ‘pumpkin day,'” read a report from The Hill.

But while the defense attorney alleges his client has done nothing wrong, investigators allege that the potential attack was inspired by ISIS extremism.

“One person familiar with the investigation said it wasn’t clear whether the group had the means of carrying out the attack, but the reference to Halloween compelled FBI officials to make arrests Friday,” the outlet reported.

This comes amid the heightening of tensions surrounding political violence in the United States, as evidenced by the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk and the subsequent celebration by leftists on social media.
