While the Justice Department called out the “virtue signaling,” the Department of Homeland Security slammed a leftist mayor over a new discriminatory executive order.
Whether it’s prioritizing illegal aliens or pushing reparations, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) doesn’t just grab radical opportunities; he seeks them out. The latest example found administration officials putting his office on notice over plans to block contracts from businesses that work with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) while also seeking to institute a leadership demographics metric.
“If you want to do business with this city, we want to know whether the people leading your company reflect the diversity of the communities whose tax dollars are paying your contracts,” said Hizzoner at a signing event for the new executive order on Wednesday.

Partnering with Not With Our Money, a group with the stated objective of blocking the alleged “militarization of civil immigration enforcement,” the Chicago Sun-Times reported contracts with 42 firms had already been singled out of those doing business with ICE, amounting to over $3 billion.
“Chicagoans work hard for their tax dollars, and they deserve to know those dollars are being used responsibly. Public money should strengthen our neighborhoods, create opportunity, and serve the people who call Chicago home, not support practices that harm our communities,” said Johnson in his press release. “This executive order is about raising the standard for who we do business with, increasing transparency, and making sure our purchasing power reflects the values of the people we serve. Taxpayer dollars should build stronger communities, not bankroll practices that undermine them.”
Specifics of the order require disclosure by contractors if they’ve received more than $500,000 in the past five years via government entities or law enforcement agencies along with “certain civil or administrative proceedings.”
No details were specified as to whether or not culpability of “excessive force, unlawful detention, unconstitutional policing, discrimination, or other violations of federal and state civil rights laws” needed to be proven to impact contracts.
Where it concerned businesses that work with ICE, a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security told Fox News Digital, “If Mayor Johnson wants to lecture anyone about taxpayer dollars, remember what he is: a sanctuary politician who bullies American companies with money that isn’t his. Chicago takes the federal check, but it won’t enforce the federal law.”
“In case Chicago’s mayor forgot, an oath of office is a commitment to upholding the law, not encouraging criminal illegal aliens to break it,” added the spokesperson. “Make no mistake, we will not be deterred. Under President Trump, ICE will keep enforcing the law in Chicago, whether City Hall likes it or not.”
As for the efforts at instituting DEI quotas for contractor leadership, Matt Van Swol drew Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon’s attention to the remarks, calling out, “Racial quotas to be allowed to do business in a city is racist and should not be tolerated. Can you do anything about this????”
She responded, “We already are. He knows it’s illegal. This is virtue signaling.”
