Trump-promoted gas stations peddled stolen fuel, according to a lawsuit filed earlier this month.
Attorneys for Mansfield Oil Company claim that “foreign corporation KRSM obtained in excess of 1.1 million gallons of fuel from the former company’s account from May 21 through July 7,” according to The Hill. The cost of the fuel came out to about $4 million, but as of Aug. 17, the amount had not been paid.
“Of the roughly 1.1 million gallons of fuel KRSM obtained from Mansfield, it sold ‘a portion’ of it to stations in the Freedom Fuel Network, per the suit,” the outlet reported.
President Donald Trump had touted the Freedom Fuel gas stations, with locations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, in July. This came as Americans were feeling the pressure of rising gas prices during the travel season, as the private company reportedly sold fuel at lower prices.
“Freedom Fuel is a patriotic company doing a good thing for drivers in Pennsylvania and New Jersey by lowering their gas prices,” White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers told The Hill last month, adding that they “are doing their part to answer the President’s call to lower prices at the pump.” But Mansfield Oil claims their reduced rates were only possible because KRSM “never paid” for the fuel.
“KRSM is led by Syed Kazmi, who signed Mansfield’s commercial credit application in January 2022, as shown by a copy included in the lawsuit,” the outlet reported. “Under that application, Kazmi agreed that if Mansfield extended credit to KRSM and his company purchased fuel from the creditor, KRSM would be ‘responsible’ to pay for it.”
On Sunday, a spokesperson with the White House clarified that the administration “has had zero contact or dealings with KRSM or Kazmi.”
“A source familiar with the Freedom Fuel business also noted KRSM and Kazmi are not associated with the gas station network in any capacity,” The Hill noted.
That said, the network was promoted on the official White House X account shortly after July 4, boasting that gas was being sold at “$3.47 for our 47th President.’
