U.S. Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) reacted to President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for his next attorney general who he referred to as a “jack-off.”
The hulking Democrat was speaking with reporters about the flurry of nominations by the incoming 47th president and likened it to “God-tier kind of trolling.” Trump picked Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) for secretary of state and Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) for ambassador to the United Nations among others.
“I mean, I would describe it as God-tier level trolling to just trigger a full-on China Syndrome to own the libs in perpetuity,” Fetterman told reporters on Capitol Hill.

“But, really, the Dems’ opinions on Gaetz, that’s not really what’s interesting. The good ones are going to come by my colleagues on the other side, the GOP, on how they can justify voting for that jack-off,” Fetterman said.
He called the Rubio and Stefanik picks “serious” choices but noted that Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) would have been a “solid pick” for attorney general. Schmitt served as attorney general of Missouri before being elected senator.
“He would have been a solid pick. And then you put out someone like that,” Fetterman said, referring to Gaetz. “That’s just nothing but trolling. The interesting answers are going to come from my colleagues on the GOP that they’re going to vote or justify voting for that mess.”
Fetterman posted similar remarks on X.
There have been serious, qualified individuals nominated to posts, like Rubio or Stefanik. Eric Schmitt would be a solid choice for AG.
But Dem opinions on Gaetz aren’t that interesting.
The good ones will come from my GOP colleagues to justify a vote for that jerkoff. https://t.co/0vizyxYpAr

Gaetz, who has represented Florida’s 1st Congressional District since 2016, resigned on Wednesday, taking many of his colleagues by surprise. Trump’s announcement picking Gatez as his AG also surprised many and immediately divided Republicans.
In his announcement, Trump called Gaetz “a deeply gifted and tenacious attorney…who has distinguished himself in Congress through his focus on achieving desperately needed reform at the Department of Justice.”
