Florida city scores U.S. News & World Report BEST place to live in America

When it comes to Florida, all things are turning up roses under the leadership of Gov. Ron DeSantis.

U.S. News & World Report has dubbed Naples, located in southwest Florida on the Gulf of Mexico, as the top city in America for people to reside in.

“Long known as a preferred retirement spot for the rich, powerful and cold-averse, the greater Naples area supplies pristine beaches, sprawling golf courses, and fine dining and shopping. Closer to the area’s rural interior, meanwhile, cattle graze and seasonal workers pick tomatoes in the fields around Immokalee, a farming community an hour’s drive outside of Naples,” the 2024-2025 Best Places to Live report said.

“Much of the Naples area is subject to a seasonal ebb and flow as residents from cold-weather states – often called ‘snowbirds’ – flock to the region during the winter months to enjoy Florida’s seemingly endless supply of sunshine and warm weather. Those seasonal residents leave their second homes in Naples as the sweltering summer months approach,” the profile continued. “But proximity to the beach, loads of sunshine and no state income tax come with drawbacks. Continued growth and development are exacerbating a lack of affordable homes in Naples. And traffic, although nowhere near the levels seen in larger Florida metro areas, tends to choke roadways in the urban area during the winter months.”

Naples, which was ranked #6 last year, saw a significant rise in this year’s rankings.

U.S. News & World Report altered its ranking methodology, according to Fox Business. The report now focuses on “city-based data” rather than “metropolitan area-based data,” and puts more weight on “value and job market measures,” two of the four main categories used for analysis, the network reported.

“Rising concerns about career prospects, housing affordability and increased cost of goods and services are reflected in this year’s rankings. While quality of life remains the top priority for many Americans, a city’s value and job market are becoming increasingly important for those looking for a place to live,” U.S. News & World Report loans expert and reporter Erika Giovanetti said in a statement.

The top five best places rounded out to be, in order, Boise, Idaho; Colorado Springs, Colo.; Greenville, S.C.; and Charlotte, N.C. The South accounted for 7 of the top 10 cities. Listed 6 through 10 are Raleigh, N.C.; Huntsville, Ala.; Virginia Beach, Va.; Austin, Texas; and Boulder, Colo.

Florida scored a second city just outside the top 10, with Sarasota ranking #11.

Interestingly, San Francisco is ranked #22, and Seattle is the 28th best place to live. Further skewing the results, Antifa-riddled Portland, Ore., is ranked #41.
