“Gill who has three children was shot in the head at around 5:45 p.m. on Monday in the 900 block of K Street NW,” according to the Washington Post which reported that a witness saw a woman run up to the man as he lay on the ground with blood pooling around his head.
“Oh, my God, that’s my husband,” the woman screamed as she ran toward the man and grabbed onto his hand, asking “What happened?” and receiving no response.
“Ambulances arrived. As emergency medical personnel lifted the man on a gurney, Douglas said, she saw a car key drop from somewhere on his body. It clinked on the pavement. Then, another small metal object fell. ‘That’s a shell casing,’ one of the first responders said, realizing that the man had been shot,” the Post reported.
Gill was taken to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.
The suspect, who is believed to have been involved in multiple carjackings, including one that left one man dead before he was himself fatally shot by police.

In a statement to Fox 5 reporter Shomari Stone, Gill’s family said, “Mike is an amazing husband, father, friend and colleague. He has a wonderful sense of humor, no matter the situation. He makes friends with everyone – and is always looking for opportunities to bring people together and make them feel included and loved. His warmth and kindness have touched the lives of many, evident in the outpouring of love and support his family has have received during this difficult time.”
“Mike’s remarkable ability to connect with others transcends boundaries. His genuine interest in people and his innate ability to make everyone feel valued and included have been instrumental in fostering a sense of community wherever he goes. Whether it’s through his infectious laughter, his genuine concern for others, or his innate ability to find common ground, Mike is a catalyst for unity and friendship. The most important thing about Mike that all of his friends know is how much he loves his family and how proud he is of his three children. You can’t know Mike without hearing proud stories of each one of his kids, and hearing about his love and respect for his wife, Kristina,” the statement read, according to Fox 5.
“The violence that we saw yesterday was senseless and tragic. We know two families are experiencing an unspeakable tragedy,” D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser at a Tuesday news conference as the violence that she helped to unleash when she threw in with the movement to defund the police rages in her city with no relief in sight.
