GOP senator makes a stand on gender, then caves to boos of woke mob after saying only ‘two sexes’

If there’s one thing the GOP desperately needs in today’s world of liberal lunacy, it’s a spine — and that critical backbone is precisely what Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) appears to lack.

Speaking at a University of Wyoming commencement on Saturday, Lummis took a stand for science and sanity, saying “the existence of two sexes, male and female” was a “fundamental scientific truth.”

But don’t go waving your MAGA flags in her direction just yet.

When Lummis received some boos from woke students, she promptly folded and quickly issued an apology, the Oil City News reported.

In a statement released Sunday, Lummis said she was sorry to anyone who felt “un-welcomed or disrespected” by her comments.

“My reference to the existence of two sexes was intended to highlight the times in which we find ourselves, times in which the metric of biological sex is under debate with potential implications for the shared Wyoming value of equality,” she explained.

“I share the fundamental belief that women and men are equal, but also acknowledge that there are biological differences and circumstances in which these differences need to be recognized,” she continued. “That being said, it was never my intention to make anyone feel un-welcomed or disrespected, and for that I apologize. I have appreciated hearing from members of the University of Wyoming community on this issue, and I look forward to continuing this dialogue.”

If Lummis thought the apology would win her friends or votes, she was sadly mistaken.

The only thing she seemed to gain for making it was criticism from both sides of the political spectrum, proving once again why it is pointless to bow to a woke mob: you won’t appease those who already hate you, and you’ve betrayed the ones who don’t.

“It’s abhorrent Sen. Lummis used such a moment of joy and optimism before a captive audience waiting for their diplomas to spew this anti-trans rhetoric,” fumed Tony Webster.

“it’s appalling that she had to make the day about her,” a user agreed. “No justification at all for it and she should never be asked to speak at any university in the future. [She] owes every single graduate an apology.”

“Good for the students,” tweeted a third.

Meanwhile, conservatives are not impressed by the senator’s willingness to abandon her convictions.

“The only issue here for her constituents is that she apologized,” wrote one user.

“No,” stated another. “People need to stop apologizing to the left for stating facts. The reason the left is winning is because we keep playing nice with these people who will never play nice with us. It’s time to stop playing nice and treat them the way they treat us.”
