Trump urges NC voters to give embattled Madison Cawthorn ‘second chance’ one day before primary

Just one day before voters in North Carolina head to the polls for the midterm primary, former President Donald Trump has urged conservatives to give the besieged Madison Cawthorn ‘a second chance.’

Cawthorn has been under attack from liberal media outlets lately, with videos and photos of the young Republican doing and saying things that have caused some to question their support of the young former soldier.

As previously reported in April, Politico received tremendous backlash for posting pictures of a lingerie-clad Cawthorn posing with two girls.

Cawthorn himself explained the photos, which were taken during an adults-only scavenger hunt aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise.

“I guess the left thinks goofy vacation photos during a game on a cruise (taken waaay before I ran for Congress) is going to somehow hurt me?” he tweeted, along with a link to an article about the game. “They’re running out of things to throw at me…”

If only that were true.

In early May came two damning videos: One from the Daily Mail, in which Cawthorn is heard saying, “I feel the passion and desire and would like to see a naked body beneath my hands” while he’s sitting next to a male staffer whose hand is noticeably close to Cawthorn’s crotch; and another leaked video which appears to show a nude Cawthorn simulating sex with another man.

But according to Trump, these are just “foolish mistakes” that shouldn’t prevent Cawthorn from being reelected.

Trump took to his own social media platform, Truth Social, Monday to endorse the wheelchair-bound Congressman.

“At 18 years of age, Madison Cawthorn, the now 26 year old Congressman from the Great State of North Carolina, went through a life changing event the likes of which, fortunately, few people will ever have to endure,” Trump said. “In just seconds, he lost the use of the lower half of his body, a traumatic experience to say the least.”

“When Madison was first elected to Congress, he did a great job,” the former President continued. “Recently, he made some foolish mistakes, which I don’t believe he’ll make again… let’s give Madison a second chance!”

While a coveted endorsement from Trump has historically provided a huge boost for underdog candidates, it remains unclear how effective a post on Truth Social will be in rallying the masses.

Cawthorn hasn’t posted anything on Truth Social in two months, and so far, he has not tweeted about Trump’s encouraging words.

And while many conservatives have either established a Truth Social account or are still trying to do so, it appears more Liberals, intent on crushing Cawthorn, are posting a screenshot of the endorsement to Twitter and using it as a “twofer” opportunity to slam Trump.

Indeed, it was a Politico correspondent, Meridith McGraw, who put the endorsement on Twitter blast, ensuring it would be mostly her liberal followers who would amplify the tweet with negative comments.

Below are a sample of the less-than-kind reactions, illustrating why Donald Trump needs to reconsider his decision not to return to Twitter — where a legion of conservatives would have retweeted him —  should the ban on his account eventually be lifted under new ownership.

Unless he does, unchallenged reactions like this may just do his choices for Congress more harm than good on social media.
