Highland Park suspect says feds staged deadly July 4th shooting in ‘false flag’ operation

Robert E. Crimo III, suspect in the July 4 Highland Park, Illinois, mass shooting that left seven people dead, claimed in a Sept. 21 video call from Lake County Jail that federal agents staged the deadly attack in an orchestrated “false flag” operation.

The recorded clip of the call is now making its rounds on social media.

“We don’t have much time,” Crimo said. “This whole event was a false flag operation employed by the people who hide behind the FBI.”

“The witnesses are actors. The interview was a performance,” he continued. “They tortured and coerced me into falsifying evidence.”

Crimo goes on to name FBI agents who he says “were on the ground” in Highland Park on the day of the massacre.

In an audio-recorded “follow-up statement,” Crimo stated again, “The witnesses giving the interviews, the witnesses that are going to take the stand, they are paid actors. They are actors.”

“None of these red flag events ever happened,” he continued. “I’ve never attempted suicide. I’ve never threatened harm to anyone. I’ve never been hospitalized. I’ve never been diagnosed with anything whatsoever.”

“They want me to play a character,” Crimo said. “A character that will stoke race and gender relations. A character they can use as an example to disarm the American population. But I refuse to play that character. I love my country.”

“This inmate providing the names of various people, whether involved in his criminal investigation or not, is certainly concerning,” Lake County Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. “We supply the state’s attorney’s office with all of the information we have on this inmate, as with any other inmate, should [prosecutors] use the information in aggravation associated with their current case or decide to pursue additional charges.”

While the woman who recorded the video call has since been banned from future video calls with the inmates for violating jail rules, Crimo has retained his tablet privileges, can still make video calls from his cell, and hasn’t faced disciplinary action.

“Crimo lost his tablet privileges for a period of time earlier this year after he prank-called a journalist,” the Sun-Times reports. “This time, though, it’s up to a judge to decide what to do since Crimo wasn’t the one who violated jail rules, the sheriff’s office said.”

While Crimo’s claims are largely being dismissed as a bizarre rant in the media, many on X aren’t sure what to believe anymore.
