According to a spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Israel intends to strike back at Hamas with enormous force, regardless of what the rest of the oftentimes Hamas-appeasing world has to say about it.
Speaking with The Independent, IDF spokesperson Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus said a ground invasion is “on the table” and suggested that Israel’s retaliation against Hamas will be as unprecedented in scale as Hamas’ attack against Israel.
“There definitely is a possibility of a ground incursion. That is on the table. As we speak, the [Israeli army] is preparing all of the options. It is important to understand the paradigms of yesterday, the paradigms up until Oct. 6th, should be discarded or put to rest. There should be new paradigms of operation from Oct 7th,” he said.
“This is uncharted territory. When it comes to us fighting terrorism, we will need to new heavy and stronger tools against these terrorists. I wouldn’t rule out anything at this stage. This is an unprecedented attack which calls for an unprecedented response against Hamas which will render it incapacitated to do such an attack again,” he added.
“This is not a normal situation — this will not end with the limping ceasefire,” he concluded, shutting down calls from the left for a ceasefire.
Conricus also published a video to X (formerly Twitter) from the IDF’s official X account repeating some of what he’d said earlier and also saying some new things:

In the video, he stressed that while Israel’s initial goal is to drive out Hamas and ensure its own cities are safe, the next step will be to attack —Â regardless of what the world, which tends to be more sympathetic toward the Palestinians, says about it.
“That’s usually the stage when the world starts to count Palestinian deaths and lecture us about humanity and the use of force. Let me remind everybody how this started: It started with the butchering and the cold-blooded execution of Israeli civilians by Hamas — unprovoked,” he said.
And so whatever happens next, he continued, Hamas is “responsible.”
“For those of you who care about truth and defending democracies … against evil, dark, medieval extremists, then I urge you, speak up, support Israel … and make sure that you stand up to slander of Israel, to misinformation, to bias against Israel, to thinly concealed anti-Semitism and BDS masquerading as support for Palestinians or masquerading as care for Palestinian civilians,” he said.
“I can assure you the IDF will be very measured in its response and that we, unlike our enemies, hold human life dear. But I can also assure you today is a different day, and the response Israel will deliver Hamas will be unlike anything we have done in the past. We will make Hamas pay a price they have never paid before, hopefully until their destruction,” he added.
Latest numbers:
-300+ Israelis killed

-3,000+ rockets fired into Israel
-Dozens of Israeli soldiers and civilians taken hostage and now are POWs in Gaza
-252 Palestinians dead
-1,000+ woundedThe war continues at this hour.

His remarks come amid a growing call for a ceasefire among leftists like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who to her credit has condemned Hamas, but who nevertheless doesn’t seem to support the idea of Israel fighting fire with fire.
“Today is devastating for all those seeking a lasting peace and respect for human rights in Israel and Palestine. I condemn Hamas’ attack in the strongest possible terms. No child and family should ever endure this kind of violence and fear, and this violence will not solve the ongoing oppression and occupation in the region. An immediate ceasefire and de-escalation is urgently needed to save lives,” she said in a statement Saturday.
The statement was ratioed by a veritable army of Israel supporters who, much like Conricus, believe retaliation is perfectly fair:

There will be no immediate ceasefire. Cope.
— Bonchie (@bonchieredstate) October 8, 2023
There is no “but” in this. There is zero justification. There is no mitigation. This was savagery. Israel is justified in whatever response they choose.

Ceasefire? Hamas murdered innocent civilians, and you want Israel to stand down from fighting back?
Quit supporting terrorists.

An immediate cease fire so Hamas can do it again next month followed by, oh what could it be? An immediate cease fire? Great idea! Sort of like the Holocaust in slow motion so we can all watch.

Too late. The time for calling for ceasefire and de-escalation was BEFORE Hama bombed Israel/Jerusalem. Not after.
Now it’s Netanyahu’s turn to teach them a very hard lesson. This may be the end of Gaza altogether.
