President Joe Biden marked the anniversary of January 6 with a “forceful, aggressive, pointed” speech aimed mostly at former President Donald Trump, but a recently-resurfaced video is causing people to wonder if this is all just political theater.
Fox News hosts Dana Perino and Bret Baier condemned the president’s speech as “hugely political” and “divisive” with Perino saying “[e]veryone has a choice how they want to communicate, especially the president of the United States.”
Baier added onto her notes, saying, “It was as forceful, aggressive, pointed, specifically at the former president as we’ve seen in a speech from President Biden since taking office January 20th of last year.”
During his speech, Biden talked a lot about Trump and his perceived involvement in the attacks on the Capitol that occurred in 2021.
“What did we not see? We didn’t see a former president who had just rallied the mob to attack, sitting in the private dining room off the Oval Office in the White House watching it all on television and doing nothing for hours as police were assaulted, lives at risk, the nation’s capitol under siege,” Biden remarked. “This wasn’t a group of tourists, this was an armed insurrection. They weren’t looking to uphold the will of the people, they were looking to deny the will of the people.”
“They were looking to uphold they weren’t looking to uphold a free and fair election, they were looking to go overturn one. They weren’t looking to save the cause of America, they were looking to subvert the Constitution,” he continued. “This isn’t about being bogged down in the past, this is about making sure the past isn’t buried. That’s the only way forward. That’s what great nations do. They don’t bury the truth, they face up to it. It sounds like hyperbole, but that’s the truth. They face up to it.”
But for all of his talk about respecting the results of elections, a recently-resurfaced clip of him saying he agrees with a woman who calls Trump an “illegitimate” president appears to belie his recent remarks about upholding “a free and fair election.”

“[Trump] is an illegitimate president in my mind,” a woman off-screen says to a smattering of cheers from the crowd. “That’s it. I think all the talk about impeachment and what the Democrats should do that’s fine, it’s theoretical at this point. Let them investigate, let them subpoena, let them go to the Supreme Court. He’s illegitimate.”
“And my biggest fear is that he’s gonna do it again with the help of [Russian President] Vlad[imir Putin], his best pal, and we’re gonna be stuck with six more years of this guy,” she continues, facing no pushback from Biden. “And that is terrifying. It’s terrifying.”
Biden then breaks in to jokingly ask the woman if she would like to be his vice president before saying “Folks, look, I absolutely agree.”
