Veteran Democrat political strategist James Carville called for the media to use a different standard in its reporting on GOP frontrunner Donald J. Trump who is steamrolling his way toward his party’s nomination.
The “Rajin’ Cajun” joined MSNBC’s Ari Melber on Wednesday’s edition of “The Beat” to break down the previous night’s New Hampshire primary in which Trump clobbered establishment darling Nikki Haley, even with a massive turnout by Democrats and independents in the state’s open primary.
The 79-year-old insisted that the media has been trying to “normalize” the former president and that since 2024 is not a “normal election,” he merits even more savage and dishonest coverage by the Democrat stooges in mainstream newsrooms than he has already received.

“I would start, Trump said this is not typical, he is exactly right,” Carville said. “This is not a typical election and there’s a massive effort to normalize this.”
“You see the New York Times’ column well, the Trump people have a case,” he continued, referring to a less than damning opinion of Trump than normally permitted at the once-esteemed newspaper.
“You see the head of JP Morgan Chase, the largest bank in the United States saying ‘well they’re right about some things,'” he added in a shot at CEO Jamie Dimon who raised the hackles of leftists when he recently defended Trump and MAGA voters.
“Reporters with Jason Miller in the Fort Des Moines hotel reminds me of a bunch of German reporters in some Munich bar in 1935 saying ‘Hey Goering, he was an entertaining guy, I’ll tell you what, he had some great stories” he ranted, referring to Nazi leader Hermann Goering in another tiresome Trump as Hitler smear.
“Nothing is normal about this, at all,” Carville insisted. “And if you watch his speech last night, it was completely unhinged and what I am obsessed with is stop treating him like he is a normal candidate that this some kind of Bob Dole, Mitt Romney, this is really not Ari.”
“And, you know, the polling was accurate in Iowa. It was actually accurate in 2022, people just substituted their own judgment for the numbers that were sitting right in front of them but if you look at this, there is a chance that Trump could win this election,” he raved.
“And the way he wins is he is treated as a normal candidate,” he added, accusing Trump of being a rapist based on a biased jury in the E. Jean Carroll trial that was pulled from an area that overwhelmingly hates the America First Republican.
Widely acknowledged to have been the architect of Bill Clinton’s 1992 election win with his slogan “It’s the economy stupid” serving as a big factor in the defeat of incumbent President George H.W. Bush, Carville has been living off his reputation for decades despite being little more than a foul-mouthed old crank these days.
A frequent guest on MSNBC, the acid-tongued Carville regularly dispenses his rotten takes, including recently speculating that the red spots on Trump’s hands during his appearance in the latest Carroll trial were a sign of “secondary syphilis,” a particularly vile remark but par for the course for the cadaverous consultant who has aged way past his good-thru date.
