Jan. 6 committee hits Newt Gingrich; intimidation letter demands ‘information’ to help its witch-hunt

There can be little doubt at this point that Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s politically motivated January 6 House Select Committee is all about influencing the 2022 midterm elections in the quest to hold onto power, but another troubling aspect of the one-sided Soviet-style inquisition is that the panel is using the power of Congress to go after some of it’s most effective critics.

The latest target of this campaign of intimidation is none other than former Speaker Newt Gingrich, who was sent a letter from Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) requesting “information” that may be helpful in their so-called investigation — Gingrich, of course, being a big enough name to ensure keeping their contrived insurrection narrative in the news cycle as the November election swings into full gear.

The timing of the letter came as Gingrich sounded the warning about the upcoming election during an appearance this week on the Fox Business Network.

“They’re going to set the stage for stealing this election if they can,” he said of Democrats, after voicing support for voter ID. “They may set the stage for actually trying to suspend it, which has never been done in American history. But remember, they’re desperate. They’re faced with a very real likelihood that if the truth comes out, if the Republicans control the House and Senate, there are a number of very powerful people whose futures are at risk. And they’re gonna do anything they can in the next two months to make sure that they don’t lose.”

One need look no further than the dubious actions of the FBI over the past few years in relation to Donald Trump AND Hunter Biden to understand where the Republican politician was going with his remarks.

“The Committee has obtained information indicating that you have knowledge about former President Donald J. Trump’s efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, and we write to seek your voluntary cooperation,” Thompson said in the letter to Gingrich. “Some of the information that we have obtained includes email messages that you exchanged with senior advisors to President Trump and others, including Jared Kushner and Jason Miller, in which you provided detailed input into television advertisements that repeated and relied upon false claims about fraud in the 2020 election.”

“These advertising efforts were not designed to encourage voting for a particular candidate,” the letter continued. “Instead, these efforts attempted to cast doubt on the outcome of the election after voting had already taken place. They encouraged members of the public to contact their state officials and pressure them to challenge and overturn the results of the election.”

Thompson claimed evidence showed that Gingrich pushed messages designed to incite anger among voters.

“Your efforts did not only seek to persuade. Also on December 8, 2020, in response to a proposed script for a television advertisement about election fraud, you sent an email to Mr. Weitzner, Mr. Kushner, and Mr. Miller writing:

“The goal is to arouse the country’s anger through new verifiable information the American people have never seen before[.] . . . If we inform the American people in a way they find convincing and it arouses their anger[,] they will then bring pressure on legislators and governors.

“You sought to arouse anger just one week after Gabe Sterling, a senior Georgia official, warned the public of the violent threats made against Georgia election officials,” the chairman said. “He specifically stated that, ‘[s]omeone is going to get hurt. Someone is going to get shot. Someone is going to get killed.’ He was exactly right.”

Suggesting Gingrich has “knowledge and information directly related to our investigation,’ the letter goes on to say “that you were likely in direct conversations with President Trump about these efforts.”

Proving that the committee is conducting little more than a witch hunt, desperately seeking a smoking gun, Thompson added, “The Committee is also interested in other communications you may have had with the White House, President Trump, the Trump legal team or any other persons involved in the events of January 6th. We ask that you preserve all records of such communications.”
