Kansas Dem loses it after Governor’s veto on transgender sports bill is handily defeated: ‘Full of sh*t’

As Kansas lawmakers voted to override a veto by the state’s leftist governor on a bill that bans transgender students from participating in girls’ sports, Democratic Rep. Susan Ruiz had a meltdown on the floor, informing Republicans that they were “Full of sh*t” for doing so.

According to the Kansas Reflector, Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly’s veto of HB2238 was overridden on Wednesday after both houses of the Kansas state legislature, where Republicans hold supermajorities, cleared the two-thirds majority required for the bill to become law, horrifying leftists across the state.

The vote wasn’t even close, tallying 84 to 40 in favor of overriding the veto. It passed after less than 20 minutes of discussion.

Following the blowout vote, Ruiz made her vile statement because she claimed she heard Republicans laughing after the vote. She charged that a Republican was “gloating” when he came into the chamber. She specifically singled out State Rep. Patrick Penn from Wichita, according to Breitbart News.

“He came in gloating, and it’s wrong,” Ruiz told the Kansas Reflector. “This is all about wins and losses for them. This is a win for them. They don’t care what kind of a win it is. They don’t care about the unintended consequences. They don’t care that trans kids have a target on their back.”

“They don’t care if LGBTQ+ kids, trans kids, kill themselves because of what they hear around them,” Ruiz continued. “They think that kids aren’t listening to us. They are.”

Rep. Heather Meyer, an Overland Park Democrat with a transgender child, stood up to display her t-shirt during the session, which read, “Protect trans youth.”

During the heated debate over the bill, Penn called it racist to not protect women’s sports from transgender radicalism, according to Breitbart News, proclaiming that black women athletes would lose because a “man decided to suit up with the females and go dominate the court.”

“Vote yes, override this veto, end racism,” Penn asserted.

Republican Rep. Barbara Wasinger also argued that not protecting women’s sports would be a regressive act that could potentially set women back.

“Let’s not go back in time,” Wasinger stated.

The bill first passed the state House on Feb. 23, with one lone Democrat joining Republicans to get it across the finish line. The bill was then passed by the Senate just days later before making its way to Kelly’s desk where it was vetoed on March 17. The popular bill had no chance of dying and was overturned.

Kelly’s veto of the bill marks the third year in a row that she has nixed a ban on transgender students participating in women’s sports.

“It sort of breaks my heart,” Kelly confided to reporters following the override. “It certainly is disappointing. I know that there’s some legislators for whom this was a very, very hard vote, and one that I think they will regret as they look back on their time in the Legislature.”

“This is sort of a moral values vote,” she ironically and hypocritically added. “I think they voted against their own moral code and their own values. I think that’s going to be very tough for them long-term.”

Taryn Jones, who is a lobbyist with Equality Kansas, called the ban “state-sanctioned bullying of children.”

“As we’ve seen with discussions on trans issues in Kansas and around the nation, this bill is based on misinformation, false science, and homophobia,” Jones declared in a news release after the House vote.

States that have sought to protect women’s sports include Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, South Dakota, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, Alabama, Missouri, Florida, and South Carolina. Kansas is now the 20th state to pass a transgender student-athlete ban into law.
