Two prosecutors who’d been working former Manhattan district attorney Cyrus Vance Jr.’s case against former President Donald Trump have resigned from their posts, reportedly in part because Vance’s successor, Alvin Bragg, appears “disinterested” in moving forward with the case.
Bragg is the same newly elected, “woke” DA infamous for releasing a memo during his first week in office last month urging prosecutors to go soft on crimes such as trespassing, prostitution and resisting arrest, among others. Apparently, he also wants to go soft on whatever alleged crimes that Trump committed.
“The prosecutors, Carey R. Dunne and Mark F. Pomerantz, submitted their resignations because the new Manhattan district attorney, Alvin Bragg, indicated to them that he had doubts about moving forward with a case against Mr. Trump,” The New York Times reported Wednesday, citing certain “people with knowledge of the matter.”
Another anonymous source told CNN that Bragg appeared completely “disinterested” in the case. His alleged disinterest reportedly made Dunne and Pomerantz’ job harder.
“Without Mr. Bragg’s commitment to move forward, the prosecutors late last month postponed a plan to question at least one witness before the grand jury,” according to the Times.
“They have not questioned any witnesses in front of the grand jury for more than a month, essentially pausing their investigation into whether Mr. Trump inflated the value of his assets to obtain favorable loan terms from banks.”
All this bodes exceptionally well for Trump for two reasons.

One, the grand jury that Vance convened last year is reportedly set to expire in April.
“Prosecutors can ask jurors to vote to extend their term but generally avoid doing so. They also are often reluctant to impanel a new grand jury after an earlier one has heard testimony, because witnesses could make conflicting statements if asked to testify again,” the Times notes.
According to CNN, Bragg’s office has already had a “Trump accountant,” two Forbes “journalists” and a couple Deutsche Bank employees testify before the grand jury.
And two, prior to their departure, Dunne and Pomerantz had been instrumental to the investigation.
“[W]ithout Mr. Dunne, a high-ranking veteran of the office who has been closely involved with the inquiry for years, and Mr. Pomerantz, a leading figure in New York legal circles who was enlisted to work on it, the yearslong investigation could peter out,” the Times warns.
And that would be a blessing for Trump, ergo why leftists who passionately hate him are so incensed that some are now calling for Bragg to be investigated and fired for “not prosecuting criminals.”
By criminals, they presumably mean Trump and not, you know, drug dealers, thieves and child molesters:
Investigate @ManhattanDA. If he won’t prosecute criminals, he’s one of them. https://t.co/SBxmFr5zHs

Manhattan district attorneys it’s time to step up and investigate your boss, Alvin Bragg. One doubts his financials will stand up to the get off day. pic.twitter.com/WnOD1JNDMm

Someone needs to investigate @ManhattanDA immediately.

@GovKathyHochul , this is evidence that the @ManhattanDA is not doing his job. Please investigate and fire him.

Investigate Bragg’s finances.
Remember the previous Manhattan D.A. dropped a case on the Trump’s when he received a large campaign “donation” from Trump’s lawyer.— What’s Up Doc? 🏳️🌈 (@KDavisGayFriend) February 24, 2022
What the hell are you doing?? You’re going to let a criminal like Trump walk free? Disgusting! I hope they begin to investigate you and why you are doing this! Something isn’t right here.

This needs to be investigated. @ManhattanDA has been there all of five minutes. Something is fishy. And it’s not that tough since the judge on civil side
even said he saw evidence that could be criminal! Hope @NewYorkStateAG is investigating Bragg— Proud_Democrat (@ryannicholos) February 23, 2022
Even Elie Mystal, one of MSNBC’s most radical guests, is troubled by Bragg’s lack of actions vis-a-vis prosecuting Trump:
I’m really trying hard to understand Alvin Bragg here and… I don’t. I can’t make it make sense.

I will say that if New York elected two black men and got Mayor “Jackboot Over-Policing is Good” and DA “But Not For Rich White Folks” it’ll be pretty disappointing.
But like I said, maybe there’s more to this decision that I’m just not seeing right now.

Bragg is, ironically enough, the most left-wing DA ever elected to the district. But by showing “disinterest” in prosecuting Trump, it appears he’s evoked the rage of the left-wing establishment base.
To be clear, the investigation is still ongoing and may not necessarily peter out.
“In a statement responding to the resignations of the prosecutors, a spokeswoman for Mr. Bragg said that he was ‘grateful for their service’ and that the investigation was ongoing,” according to the Times.
With all the backlash coming his way, Bragg may reverse course and grow more focused on taking down Trump. Knowing the left, he really could wind up finding himself under investigation next if he doesn’t do as they demand …
