Kristi Noem raising eyebrows with new ads running in key states

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem is raising plenty of eyebrows with a new ad talking about “just getting started,” with many speculating that a presidential run could be on the horizon.

Noem is up for reelection in November and had been running ads on Facebook in recent weeks “that detail the family struggles she endured as a child after the death of her father, showcase her steering of South Dakota through the COVID crisis without implementing shutdowns, and tout the state’s current economic standing and the increase in families moving to the plains state,” Fox News reported.

But what stands out is where the ads are being viewed, with Fox News noting that they are “getting clicks” in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina, “the first three states to hold contests in the Republican Party’s presidential nominating calendar.”

“In South Dakota, we never back down from a challenge and we refuse to let fear steal our freedom. So saddle up because here, freedom runs FREE,” the caption reads.

The closing line in the spot includes a similar comment from Noem, with one important addition, “Here, freedom runs free. So saddle up, we’re just getting started.”

A trip to the northeast portion of the country is expected, according to sources, and Fox News says the trip could potentially include a stop in New Hampshire.

It’s a safe bet that Donald Trump still has considerable influence over who will run for the 2024 Republican presidential nominee as few in the party are willing to take on the former president, whose campaign style can be compared to a bull in a china shop.

Noem is seen as a strong Trump supporter and it’s not likely that she’d challenge him head-on, but pundits toss her name around as a potential running mate if the former president launches another White House run in 2024. If Trump doesn’t run, the conservative governor will be an early frontrunner for the GOP nomination.

In an interview while in Iowa last summer, Noem was all but certain that Trump would be running in 2024.

“He had America right where we needed her. His polices were right. So I’m counting on him running,” she said.

On that note, Trump suggested in an interview published Thursday by New York Magazine that his 2024 decision is more about when he announces his run, not IF he will announce it.

“I would say my big decision will be whether I go before or after,” Trump said, in an apparent reference to the midterm elections in November.
