An Oregon teenager who admitted to building two destructive devices as part of a larger plot to allegedly kill federal immigration officers escaped a jail sentence, being placed on supervised probation instead.
Rayden Tanner Coleman, 19, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Columbia County Circuit Court to two counts of unlawful manufacture of a destructive device, a Class C felony, according to KPTV.
“Under a plea agreement, Judge Michael T. Clarke sentenced Coleman to 36 months of supervised probation and ordered him to serve 75 days in jail, with credit for time already served,” the Fox affiliate reported. “The state dismissed 13 other charges, including domestic terrorism in the second degree, attempt to commit a Class B felony, and multiple counts of possessing destructive devices.”

Coleman planned to form a local militia called the “Cascadia Rangers,” according to witnesses, with the goal being to launch an attack on federal officers. He reportedly hoped this would inspire others to join his cause.
“In interviews with police, Coleman allegedly admitted to planning attacks on federal officers and revealed he was buying an AR-style rifle from a local dealer through monthly installments, police said. Coleman allegedly acknowledged making statements about killing officers but claimed some of the comments were made in anger,” Fox 12 reported.
Considering this is Oregon, some may find it surprising that left coast prosecutors presented a case at all, and that the judge applied a penalty, as lenient as it was. Compare their actions to how 9/11 protesters were treated for merely trespassing on federal grounds — in many cases, having entered the U.S. Capitol after police opened the doors.
