Soon-to-be former Congresswoman Liz Cheney lived up to her Republican neo-con roots on Sunday when she blasted Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy for daring to suggest that Ukraine will not be handed a “blank check” in its ongoing conflict with Russia when the GOP takes control of Congress, as expected, in November.
Then again, as Larry Elder pointed out, not many people outside of the Democratic political machine — which included much of the media — take Cheney seriously these days.
The Wyoming Republican accused McCarthy of siding with Vladimir Putin, telling “Meet the Press” moderator Chuck Todd that the GOP leader “always chooses to serve his own political purpose” while suggesting that the Republican Party under McCarthy will “no longer support the Ukrainian people.”
“The notion that now Kevin McCarthy is going to make himself the leader of the pro-Putin wing of my party is just a stunning thing,” Cheney said. “It’s dangerous, he knows better.”

How did he achieve such a feat? Well, he told CNBC last week there may be limits to financing the war in Ukraine.
“I think Ukraine is very important. I support making sure that we move forward to defeat Russia in that program. But there should be no blank check on anything. We are $31 trillion in debt,” he said. “We’ve got to eliminate the wasteful spending in Washington.”
Clearly, Cheney is at best distorting his words, at worst flat out lying about him not supporting Ukraine. Never mind that the longer the conflict goes on, the greater the possibility of it escalating into a nuclear Armageddon, using President Joe Biden’s terminology.
Elder appeared Sunday on Fox News’ “The Next Revolution,” and agreed with host Steve Hilton that Cheney’s attack on McCarthy was “outrageous.”
“I’m not quite sure how big the microphone, or megaphone it is that Liz Cheney has,” Elder said, reminding Hilton that she lost to her Republican primary opponent by 44 percent.
After noting the historical context of that defeat, he also pointed out that Cheney is now in bed with the very same people who were just a few short years ago calling her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, a “warmonger.”
“So the whole thing is quite extraordinary,” Elder concluded. “Again, I don’t think a whole lot of people take her seriously except those who hate Republicans and believe that Donald Trump committed an insurrection on Jan. 6.”
