The left-wing smear machine has been fully unleashed on FBI Director Kash Patel, who is being portrayed as a drunk unfit to run the nation’s premier federal law enforcement agency.
Following up on the Atlantic’s scandalous hit piece citing anonymous sources who alleged that Patel was regularly intoxicated and paranoid, leftist outlet The Intercept reported that it dug up an old letter in which he admitted alcohol fueled incidents when he was in college, including being arrested.
The outlet cites a previously unreleased 2005 letter that disclosed the arrests as a part of his Florida Bar application and was a part of his personnel file at the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office, where he was once employed. The Intercept obtained a copy of the document, which was written “per instructions of my employer,” and published the details on Friday.

One of the incidents detailed in the letter occurred in 2005, months before it was written, the future-FBI chief fessed up to being arrested for public urination when he was a law student at Pace University in New York.
“We went to a few of the local bars and consumed some alcoholic drinks,” he wrote of the bad decision while out celebrating with friends.
“In a gross deviation from appropriate conduct, we attempted to relieve our bladders while walking home,” the letter read. “Before we could even do so, a police cruiser stopped the group. We were then arrested for public urination.”
Patel said that he paid a fine for the youthful indiscretion.
The other incident in the letter involved a 2001 arrest for underage drinking as a college student at the University of Richmond in Virginia, at a basketball game.
According to the outlet, “Patel helped run the Richmond Rowdies, a student fan group, and attended a home basketball game to help lead cheers. In his letter, Patel wrote that he was escorted out of the arena by a school officer due to excessive cheering.”
“Upon exiting the arena,” Patel wrote, “the officer placed me under arrest for public intoxication, as I was not yet of 21 years of age.” The letter said that he had consumed “two drinks” before the game.

He said that he paid a fine after the arrest, which was previously dug up during his confirmation process, according to NBC News, which was among the media outlets piling on after the Atlantic’s hit piece.
“Both of these incidents are not representative of my usual conduct of behavior,” Patel wrote in the letter, “and it is my hope that the Board views them as an anomaly. I dually apologize for my improper behavior both to the Board and the community at large.”
“Kash’s entire background was thoroughly examined and vetted prior to him assuming this role,” Patel spokesperson Erica Knight is quoted by the outlet.
“These attacks are nothing more than an attempt to undermine a process that has already deemed him suitable to serve and a distraction to the record-breaking success of the FBI under Director Patel,” she said.
The Atlantic’s smear job got the outlet sued for $250 million; it could soon be that The Intercept also finds itself facing a defamation lawsuit.
“I have never been intoxicated on the job, and that is why we filed a $250 million defamation lawsuit,” Patel said at a Tuesday press conference. “And any one of you who wants to participate, bring it on. I’ll see you in court.”
