Left’s latest outrage over Martin’s Potato Rolls could mean more dough for Mastriano

At a time when inflation is soaring and grocery store shelves are increasingly empty of goods Americans need, the liberal left has managed to find time and excess outrage for Martin’s Famous Potato Rolls and Bread after it was discovered that a Martin’s board member made a private donation to Pennsylvania GOP gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano.

Martin’s is, according to its website, “a family-owned and operated” business headquartered in Chambersburg, Pa. It was started by Lloyd and Lois Martin, who began baking bread in their one-car garage in 1955 and selling it to farmer’s markets.

Federal Donuts, a Philadelphia-based chicken, donuts, and coffee shop, has been using Martin’s bread since it introduced sandwiches to its menu in 2015, Billy Penn reports, but apparently supporting local and state businesses — and thus, the Pennsylvanians those businesses employ — isn’t nearly as important as protesting the way a board member votes, so Federal has ditched Martin’s in favor of Baltimore, Maryland-based Schmidt Baking Company.

“Fans began pressuring Federal Donuts to change its bread supplier after Billy Penn reported growing customer consternation because the family behind Martin’s has been among the top donors to the Republican candidate for Pa. governor, Doug Mastriano,” Billy Penn explains. “Mastriano, a state senator from South Central Pa., has been subpoenaed by the Jan. 6 committee. He rose to prominence as a leading voice in denial of the 2020 election results, and has been described as a Christian nationalist because of his expressed views.”

A retired Army colonel with 30 years of service and an outspoken “America First” state senator, Mastriano has by his very nature triggered the left with his support of bills that empower parents and their role in the education of their children, fund the police, and call for stiffer penalties for fentanyl dealers — and that’s just what he’s done this month.

It’s no wonder the left would pull out all the stops to defeat his chances at becoming governor.

The controversy surrounding the voting habits of Martin’s employees began back in May, prompting a statement from the company in which it stood by its team.

“Just like our country as a whole, Martin’s company is made up of a diverse group of employees and stockholders, all of whom are free to support and vote for whomever they choose,” the company said on the day of Pennsylvania’s primaries. “Martin’s as a company does not donate to any particular political candidate or party, but we encourage and celebrate the opportunity we all have to vote and share in the election process.”

If Federal Donuts thought boycotting a Pennsylvania business would earn them bonus woke points from consumers, the company’s plan may have backfired.

Americans are becoming increasingly tired of liberal tantrums and realize that boycotts do little to negatively impact anything other than a company’s employees, who often face layoffs when product demand drops.

Online, the move by Federal seems to have gained a lot of support — for the company they dumped.

“Please support @potatorolls,” urged Philadelphia radio talk show host Rich Zeoli. “The left is trying to destroy them because that’s just what the left does. Buy their rolls and you won’t be disappointed. Great PA family company.”

Another user said he liked working for Martin’s.

“Always enjoyed working for them and treated me fairly,” he said.

“I didn’t know potato rolls could be ‘hate rolls,” he continued, adding, “The irony: people who have never eaten their product have a problem.”

“We have been eating these since I was a kid,” another user tweeted. “My mom always bought them, and so do I. Now I’m happy to support them through all this nonsense, too.”

“I’m never giving up the potato roll because of some leftist nut,” another vowed. “Let’s start with going after drug smugglers coming across the border and then we can circle back to the ‘great potato roll tragedy.'”
