Lib schooled after claiming race not a factor in death of white teen beaten by gang of 15

A debate has erupted on X over whether the death of a 15-year-old white Las Vegas boy who was severely beaten by 15 other boys is related to race.

Jonathan Lewis Sr., the father of Jonathan Lewis Jr., told the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Friday that his son was attacked near Rancho High School on Nov. 1st after he “stood up for one of his smaller friends.”

“A couple [of people] attacked him, and they weren’t able to hurt him enough, and they all attacked him at once,” Lewis Sr. added.

Lewis Jr. was subsequently hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after local authorities found him bleeding from the head.

About a week later on Tuesday, Nov. 7th, the boy died.

While the police have yet to identify any suspects, video footage of the attack shows what appear to be a number of black boys attacking Lewis Jr.

Note what the critic above wrote about how there would be nationwide riots right now if the races had been reversed and 15 white boys had attacked a black boy.

Another critic, “End Wokeness,” claimed in a tweet that most people “didn’t [even] hear anything about this story because it doesn’t fit the narrative.”

Responding to this tweet, left-wing commentator Brian Krassenstein rushed in to chastise “End Wokeness” and others for making this case about race.

“It’s horrible that this kid was killed. I can not imagine what his family is going through right now. Yes, he was white and those who beat him were black. This fight had no indication, that I am aware of, of having anything to do with race. I just find it ironic that the ‘End Wokeness’ account that constantly complains that “woke people make everything about race,” is making this tragedy all about race,” he tweeted.

“Remember this kid for who he is, and stop trying to turn his death into some kind of circus. Unless those he fought with were attacking him because of his skin color, stop making it about skin color. I would say the exact same thing if the roles were reversed. In closing, what happened to this kid is horrible and I hope the people who did this get the book thrown at them,” he added.

Look:

Krassenstein’s arguments were not well met, with many critics arguing that he was missing the point — which isn’t that Lewis Jr. was attacked because of the color of skin, but rather that his murder is receiving scant national media attention precisely because of the color of his skin.

“Here’s what you don’t get. If this kid was black and those who killed him were white it would be on every news channel 24/7. Fact is it would not be treated the same,” one critic wrote.

“You are missing the point. It’s not about the motivation for the crime, it is about why there isn’t more media coverage,” another critic added.

Lewis Sr. for his part just hopes something, anything positive develops out of his son’s death.

“Violence just begets more violence and these children don’t even know what they’re doing half the time. I hope there’s a way that can find forgiveness in their heart and find a way to be able to come to terms with what they’ve done,” he told local station KLAS.
