Confirming the suspicion of some that Democrats would vote for a sack of garbage if it had a “D” next to it, political strategist James Carville has warmed to the possibility of a 2028 White House run by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), the party’s new leader.
The “Ragin Cajun” has been an outspoken critic of the party’s noisy progressives and their “woke” terminology but with early polls showing that the yappy New York City diva is the runaway leader as the “face of the Democratic Party” it looks like he is already falling in line behind what seems inevitable, an AOC candidacy.
During an appearance on Tuesday’s edition of “The Beat With Ari Melber” on MSNBC, the 80-year-old joined the host to discuss the latest political news and to disseminate the daily anti-Trump propaganda when the topic turned to the next election, and the “Squad” leader’s popularity.

Melber noted that a recent survey showing 2024 loser Kamala Harris pulling a miserable 6 percent also has AOC far in front of the pack albeit with a good chunk undecided before tossing it to his guest, stating “I know this doesn’t mean much” as he invited the longtime political guru to give his expert opinion on the early numbers.
While initially dismissing the poll as “useless,” Carville touted the party’s political fortunes and indicated to the host that he’s set to fall in line behind Ocasio-Cortez if she is the chosen one, while praising the “talent” that the Democrats have.
“But boy, we got some talent out there. And I don’t have a very favorable opinion of the Democratic Party, and I have no idea who the leader party is, and I am not even disturbed, because Democrats are going to pick their own leader,” he said, adding, “It’s not going to be picked by the press, it’s not going to be picked by polling. It’s going to be it’s going to be picked by Democratic voters, and that’ll have to come in due time.”
Carville also told the host that the party is not in “nearly as bad shape as it’s being portrayed” before signaling his early support for the shrill congresswoman who has embarked on a ridiculously hypocritical “Fighting Oligarchy” tour with mentor Bernie Sanders who is ready to pass the torch to a new generation of socialists.
“Look, we lost an election. I don’t like the party. I don’t blame the party reputation for being low, but I think if AOC wants to run for president and she gets the [2028 nomination], then God bless you. You are the leader of the Democratic Party. I mean, whoever gets that nomination is gonna be it,” he said, surprising the host, who noted his record of criticizing progressives.
“You heard it here first. James Carville – once a critic of the AOC podcast landscape – now says if you win, you win, and you’ve got his support,” Melber said.
“If you win, you win,” Carville responded. “That’s my attitude, you win the election, you got it.”
The ghoulish 80-year-old has parlayed his work on Bill Clinton’s winning 1992 presidential campaign with his slogan “It’s the economy stupid,” into more than three decades of media work after getting credit for Slick Willie’s upset of incumbent President George H.W. Bush and while he has rarely been right about anything in his later years, he correctly sees AOC as a meal ticket for staying relevant.
Like a flea on a mangy dog, Carville is jumping on Ocasio-Cortez as the party’s new hope.
