New York City Mayor Eric Adams is now pondering housing up to 2,000 illegal immigrants at Randall’s Island kids’ soccer fields and setting up tents in Central Park for them.

The move would negatively impact sports leagues for children, nixing games in favor of giving illegal immigrants a place to go and it has enraged New Yorkers. Hizzoner is looking to implement the policy less than a year after hundreds of thousands of dollars were spent on setting up tents at that location for migrants, only to have them taken down, according to the New York Post.
Manhattan’s iconic Roosevelt Hotel ran out of room for migrants this past weekend. Now, crowds of illegal immigrants are sleeping on the sidewalks with nowhere else to go. A City Hall representative called the sight “a heartbreaking reality” on Tuesday.
Randall’s Island Park Alliance co-Chairs Jonathan May and Nancy Neff sent a scathing letter to Deputy Mayor for Operations Meera Joshi on Monday, noting that city officials were considering using Randall’s Fields 82, 83, 84, and 85, located on the south side of the island. They are frequently used for children’s soccer matches and are being considered to house a huge number of illegal immigrants.
“Surely a less precious space can be found, rather than alienating parkland, perhaps by using private rather than public space,” the co-chairs told Joshi.

The letter informed the official that over 3,000 hours of recreation for children from both public and private schools, as well as adult sports leagues, would be canceled due to the plan.
“Behind every hour lost are dozens of New York City children who are denied space and time to play,” they asserted in the letter which was obtained by the New York Post.
“We urge you to select a site that does not mean destroying green fields, turning away young athletes, and flying in the face of the many supporters who have worked for three decades to build this resource,” the letter stated.
A source told the New York Post that the city’s plan says that the number of beds set up on the fields could be as many as 2,000. That’s quadruple what City Hall put on the island for illegal immigrants in the fall.

“The thought of [up to] four times the size of the [former] facility!? Just, wow,” the source remarked noting that there could be a lot of damage to the fields.
“It would really cause the cancellation of probably hundreds of youth sporting events over the coming months,” the source added. “[The fields] are heavily used now.”
Parents are incensed and are blaming President Biden for not controlling the border. It’s a bad sign for his re-election chances in 2024.
New York City had planned on opening a tent city in the Orchard Beach parking lot in the Bronx. That fell through when flooding hit the area just as construction was nearly completed. The tent city was then relocated to the parking lot at Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island.
A City Hall representative told the New York Post on Tuesday, “As we’ve said multiple times, with more than 93,000 asylum seekers coming through our intake system since last spring, all options remain on the table. Our teams run out of space every single day and we do our best to offer placements wherever we have space available. Children and families continue to be prioritized and are found a bed every night.”
I just heard Eric Adams on outnumbered that he’s gonna be housing migrants on Roosevelt Island at kids soccer fields. If he’s as virtuous as he claims, he’d house them at Yankee stadium, Shea stadium, Madison Square Garden. Not where kids go and play

“But we continue to do our best to at least offer adults a temporary place to wait off the sidewalks, but, in all honesty, New Yorkers may continue to see more and more migrants waiting outside as hundreds of asylum seekers continue to arrive in our city seeking shelter every day,” the representative warned.
“This is the heartbreaking reality and something our teams have worked tirelessly to avoid, but while our compassion is limitless, our resources are not. We still desperately need help from our state and federal partners. In the meantime, we encourage migrants to take us up [on] placements available outside of New York City as they become available,” he urged.
On Monday, Adams warned New Yorkers that the migrant crisis is “going to come to a neighborhood near you.”
“We need to localize this madness,” he grimly told reporters. “We have to figure out how we’re going to locate the lives of the inevitable, that there’s no more room indoors, and we have to figure that out, and that’s what I’ve got the team working on right now.”

On Tuesday, approximately 120 illegal immigrants, mostly men, slept on the sidewalk outside the Roosevelt Hotel. During the day, migrants could be seen sitting should to shoulder outside the hotel, with some sitting in each other’s laps. Women and children are given priority at the hotel and no buses arrived to take the men somewhere else.
New York City appears to be on the verge of collapsing under the onslaught of illegal immigrants, while the mayor is blaming everyone else but himself and Democrats for the catastrophe.
“This is not going to get any better,” Adams said at a press conference. “From this moment on, it’s downhill. There is no more room.”

“What you’re seeing here in the street, we’ve done everything possible. The federal government is responsible for what you’re seeing here tonight,” Manuel Castro, commissioner of the mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, claimed.
Officials with Adams’ administration didn’t deny a report on Wednesday that it is considering setting up a migrant tent shelter in Central Park and other large parks as well, according to AMNY.

He didn’t explain that the hill is in Central Park.

“The plan — originally reported by the news website Gothamist on Aug. 2 — would see tent shelters erected in major city parks including Prospect Park in Brooklyn and on Randall’s Island, in addition to Central Park. It follows several days where hundreds of asylum seekers, mainly men, have been sleeping on the streets and in buses outside of the city’s migrant welcome center at the Roosevelt Hotel in Midtown, due to the facility reaching capacity,” the media outlet reported.
