Mel Gibson roasts Newsom, backs recall of governor over ‘gross mismanagement’ of LA wildfires

Mel Gibson joined the effort to recall California Governor Gavin Newsom over “gross mismanagement” before and after the devastating wildfires that burned down thousands of homes near Los Angeles last month.

The actor and director joined the group Saving California which seeks to oust the embattled governor at a Wednesday news conference in Altadena where he lent his star power to the non-partisan coalition targeting the state’s top Democrat.

“We deserve much more and much better, and there is absolutely no adequate excuse the governor or mayor can make for this gross mismanagement and failure to preemptively deal with what they knew was coming,” the “Lethal Weapon” star said,  according to KTLA.

“Was it incompetence? Was it indifference? Complacency? Carelessness? Was it negligence? Absolutely,” the 69-year-old actor said of Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass who has been scorched by critics for going on an African junket when there was advance warning that conditions were ripe for catastrophic fires.

“There are many who say it is criminal negligence. Do the mayor and the governor give a damn about you? Hell no!” Gibson told the crowd in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood.

Gibson was among those who lost homes in the blaze which broke out on January 7 and raged for weeks. His $14.5 million Malibu mansion was destroyed along with around 13,000 others. The deadly fires claimed the lives of at least 29 people.

The actor also ridiculed the governor for saying he was going to “build back better.”

“That’s a catchy little phrase,’ he said. ‘I have another “B” word there. It’s called “bullls***,” the Daily Mail reported.

He didn’t spare Bass from criticism, laying into the far-left Democrat for firing lesbian L.A. Fire Department Chief Kristin Crowley, a convenient scapegoat for the mayor’s own failures.

“I mean, one of the most pathetic and despicable things I’ve seen was when Karen Bass, in order to shift the blame and culpability from herself, wiped it on the fire chief and threw her under the bus for speaking the truth about how the department had been defunded and were without resources,” Gibson told the crowd, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Gibson was tapped by President Donald J. Trump as one of his “special envoys” to Hollywood, an overwhelmingly leftist town that has contributed greatly to the cultural decay of America. The president also named Tinseltown legends Jon Voight and Sylvester Stallone along with the “Braveheart” star.

“This week, SavingCalifornia.vote received the official green light to begin circulating a petition to hold a recall election. They will have 160 days to gather around 15 million signatures — 12% of the total votes in the last gubernatorial election — to win a recall vote,” the New York Post reported.
