President Joe Biden’s continued missteps in the last few days have many calling for using the 25th Amendment to remove him from office, but the results may not be what they’re hoping for.
As the White House repeatedly scrambled to clean up the president’s gaffes while in Europe amid the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by Russia, questions about his ability to lead – or lack thereof – circulated again with many calling for the removal of the 79-year-old from office.
These musings prompted many on social media to note that ousting Biden, whether through employing the 25th Amendment or his resignation, would leave the nation in a worse position as Vice President Kamala Harris will have to step up to fill the office.
But The Federalist’s Mollie Hemingway pointed out on Twitter this weekend that the first move should be from Harris who should vacate her office so “someone competent” can be at the ready for when Biden resigns.
Hemingway’s tweet was in response to another post that addressed the ongoing chatter about removing Biden from office while also noting that the “Kremlin knows the whole Biden family.”
“I realise everyone here is criticising Joe Biden. For all his many faults, and muddled-ness, Biden is still better, even when risking WW3, than his current successor. People who bought the ticket should enjoy the ride etc. Thankfully the Kremlin knows the whole Biden family…” Twitter user Gray Connolly tweeted.
In response, Hemingway noted, “This is why it might be in the country’s best interest for Kamala to resign and be replaced by someone competent before Biden resigns.”

Biden continued to keep the White House on high alert this weekend as he spoke of Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Contrary to official messages from his administration, the president made several remarks and unscripted comments that had to be walked back shortly after by his own.
If it weren’t so dangerous, it would be hilarious that Biden, for all his supposed expertise in foreign affairs, somehow sees fit to ad lib remarks that depart dramatically from policy. https://t.co/mfv5UtKx1q

From a comment to American troops in Poland that had many questioning whether the U.S. military would be sent into the eastern European conflict, to calling Russian President Vladimir Putin a “butcher” who needs to be removed, Biden’s comments sparked alarm both abroad and here at home where many wondered what would have happened if it was former President Trump speaking the words.
Yesterday, Biden said American troops have been fighting in Ukraine & more are headed to fight there.
Today, Biden said the goal of U.S. policy to Russia is regime change.
Recall, the media called for the 25th amendment when Trump sipped water or walked down ramps carefully.

Imagine President Trump had inexplicably told U.S. troops they were deploying to fight Russia.
Really imagine it!
All we’d be hearing is that he’s mentally unfit and must be removed under the 25th Amendment.
Joe Biden did the same thing today.
But the media has his back…

The gaffes immediately sparked the 25th Amendment chatter online. But, as many quickly noted, the alternative is not much better.
Honestly, the 25th Amendment was crafted for just such a situation as we are now in with Biden. Yet at least two things militate against this from happening. 1) His handlers are running things anyway, and 2) Kamala, though not mentally incompetent — just stupid — could be worse.

I’m sure all those people calling form the 25th Amendment don’t realize who would become president. SPOILER ALERT: It’s not the last person who was president.

And Hemingway’s suggestion that Harris step aside for a “competent” replacement to be at the ready to take over the White House also sparked its own bevy of questions on social media.
What fictional competent Democrat do you speak of?

You are right, of course, but I believe the far left agenda was always to make Kamala the president, no matter what chaos followed as a result.

Can’t think who they could put in that’s competent and won’t just double down.

Man in fairly obvious mental decline choice of VP was so important and ended up a precursor of just how bad he would be at big decisions. But no one (especially the media) cared. America deserves this. Three more years. Buckle up.

You’re assuming that @JoeBiden wouldn’t just replace Kamala with another unqualified person chosen for identity politics reasons, as is his habit.

If she resigns who breaks the Senate tie on the open VP spot?
