Alexandria Cress Borys, 26, was shopping at a Kroger in Irmo, South Carolina Tuesday with her tw0-year-old, infant, and sister-in-law. It was around 4 p.m. that they had made their way to the parking lot to load up their vehicle when a dispute took place between Borys and a 23-year-old woman identified by police as Christina Harrison.

Details of the argument were not revealed, but reports indicated that Borys and Harrison were strangers to one another and, according to the late mother’s husband Tyler, his wife was trying to remove herself from the conflict just prior to being shot.

“From what I have pieced together, they had either concluded the argument or Alex was walking away,” he told WIS News. “It’s indicating she was shot with her back turned.”

The Irmo Police Department provided details of the fatal dispute Tuesday evening and that though Harrison had fled the scene, she had called 911 and had gone to a police station to turn herself in by 5:30 p.m.

“Unfortunately, this is a situation where tempers flared, and someone let anger get the best of them,” Irmo Police Chief Bobby Dale said. “One rash decision has impacted the lives of two families and countless others who witnessed this tragic event.”

“Senseless is the only word I can think to describe what happened today,” he added.

Borys was described to WACH by her husband as the “best wife you could ever ask for” who had “built a really strong support system” and “was a great mother.”

A coworker, identified as Sunni, spoke with WIS about the young mother whom she had worked with at a doctor’s office and who, while working as a cosmetologist, was considering a degree in nursing. “And it’s just really sad that you took away a mom, a sister, a daughter, a wife for something so senseless.”

Sunni also detailed that the Borys’ death was the second recent tragedy for the woman’s family as her brother had died six days earlier, also from a gunshot wound. “I was actually supposed to meet her on Valentine’s Day to give her the stuff that I made for her,” she explained having spoken with the victim earlier in the day. “So, she texted me that morning and I never heard anything back, and we obviously know the reason why.”

Following the tragedy, Borys’ husband started a crowdfunding page from which he hopes to use any money raised to “build a memorial for Alexandria to honor a great soul” and set any additional monies “towards a future fund to benefit our son.” At the time of this posting, $17,000 had been raised.

As for Harrison, Irmo Police said that she had been charged with murder and weapons related offenses and was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center.
