Mother of daughter found murdered while visiting LA asks why suspect’s name is being ‘kept a secret’

A Mississippi woman last heard from by her family on August 7 was found dead inside a Los Angeles home wrapped in plastic.

Hannah Rachel Collins went to visit friends in L.A. in June and was expected back home this month, according to Fox News. Her mother, who wished to remain anonymous, told the network her daughter had just celebrated her 30th birthday on Aug. 1.

A woman in L.A. found the body in her 26-year-old son’s bedroom on Sunday while trying to find the source of a “gas smell,” Fox News reported. Police have not released the identity of the 26-year-old man or any information on how Collins wound up in the home or how she knew the man.

Her death is “being handled as an Undetermined Death Investigation pending an autopsy and full toxicology,” LAPD Homicide Detective Ryan Rabbett said.

Collins’ mother told Fox News that she was informed of her daughter’s death by the medical examiner’s office Monday morning and that she has not been contacted by the Los Angeles Police Department.

“Someone murdered my daughter – that’s homicide,” the mother said on Thursday. “Someone wrapped her in [plastic] wrap, someone did that to her… I don’t understand why his name is kept a secret.”

She said her daughter was “raised in church and was very kind, thoughtful and would do anything to help anyone. Very smart, artistic and outgoing.”

“Law & Crime” reported that homicide detectives are “looking for the suspect, who they only described as a 26-year-old Hispanic man. They otherwise are keeping pretty mum about him and have not even discussed his name, a more thorough description, a picture, or any other evidence allegedly tying him to a crime.”

Actor James Woods asked what seems to be an obvious question, why hide the identity of the man?

Here’s a sampling of the responses to Woods’ inquiry, as seen on “X,” formerly known as Twitter:
