Musk calls ‘bulls**t’ remote working ‘morally wrong’: ‘The laptop class is living in la-la land’

Tesla and Twitter CEO Elon Musk is not a fan of what he calls “bulls**t” remote working and considers it “morally wrong” for some employees to work at home while others are forced to toil away in factories, asserting that “The laptop class is living in la-la land.”

Musk appeared on CBNC Television on Tuesday and harshly criticized employees who are whining that they should be allowed to work at home. That would primarily be software engineers who code for a living but would also include some other lines of work that are computer-oriented.

“Look, I’m a big believer that people need to – are more productive when they’re there in person,” the Chief Twit noted.

“The whole work-from-home thing, it’s sort of like, I think it’s, like, there are some exceptions, but I kind of think that the whole notion of work-from-home is a bit like, you know, the fake Marie Antoinette quote, ‘Let them eat cake,'” he contended.

Then he elaborated that it is unfair for some employees to work from their computers at home while others are forced to work in factories or provide service-related labor that requires they be on site for it.

“It’s like, it’s like really? You’re gonna work from home and you’re gonna make everyone else who made your car come work in the factory? You’re gonna make people who make your food that gets delivered – they can’t work from home? The people that come fix your house? They can’t work from home, but you can?! Does that seem morally right? That’s messed up,” Musk argued.

“You see it as a moral issue?” host David Faber asked, seemingly surprised by Musk’s take on the issue.

“Yes,” Musk candidly answered. “It’s a productivity issue, but it’s also a moral issue. People should get off their g**damn moral high horse with this bulls**t because they’re asking everyone else to not work from home while they do. It’s wrong.”

“People building the cars, servicing the cars, building houses, fixing houses, making the food, making all the things that people consume. It’s messed up to assume that, yes, they have to go to work, but you don’t,” he said.

Musk himself works a grueling schedule and runs numerous companies, putting in more than double the hours his employees work. He believes that if he can put in the hours in person on the job, his employees should as well. It’s also easier to keep track of actual work completed and what is produced.

However, many find it ironic that the tech mogul is not in favor of remote work. He has been heavily criticized for his viewpoint on it but people are divided on the issue.

To Musk, it is apparently not just a productivity issue, but an ethical one and he’s not asking anyone to do what he’s not already doing. However, the left is spinning it as a billionaire who is out of touch with the working class which could not be further from reality.

“I think it’s morally wrong,” he added. “I’m saying, like, look, put 40 hours in, you know?”

“The laptop class is living in la-la land,” Musk charged.

The tech titan has been a fierce advocate of return-to-office policies. He imposed a strict mandate at Tesla in June 2022, warning employees that they would lose their jobs if they did not comply.

The policy required employees to spend a minimum of 40 hours in the office a week and anything less would be “phoning it in.”
