To hear U.S. Rep. Jesus “Chuy” Garcia tell it, the unnamed staffer the Illinois Democrat blamed for a profane tweet sent from his account calling a critic “borderline retarded” and a “f**king dips**t” has been held accountable.
After the tweet blew up online, Garcia released a statement vowing disciplinary action would be taken against the anonymous staffer and Politico assured all on Monday that the unnamed communications staffer “has resigned.”
“García’s office is actively circulating a job posting for a ‘Digital Manager/Press Secretary’ among Democratic staff, some of whom shared it with POLITICO. It asks for candidates who have the ‘ability to write content that accurately conveys the Congressman’s priorities and tone,'” the political news outlet assured readers.
Garcia tweeted on Friday that he had just voted to reinstate the assault weapons ban, and a social media user named “Anarcho3D commented, “Never even heard of this guy and I won’t comply even if his silly law passes.”
A follow-up tweet from Garcia’s account unloaded on the critic, as seen here:
In a since-deleted early morning tweet, Congressman @RepChuyGarcia (D) responds to @Anarcho3D saying that they wouldn’t comply with an assault weapons ban “even if his silly law passes.”
“You are borderline re****ed,” the Congressman wrote back.

But the trash had been taken to the curb and Garcia comes out smelling like roses after the vulgar tweet while some anonymous poor slob falls on his sword. Of course, we have to take Garcia’s word — and that of the friendly media — that the poor slob actually exists. Fortunately for him, said slob will bear no public accountability for his actions if he is indeed real.
Garcia spokesperson Fabiola Rodríguez-Ciampoli said in a statement Saturday that the offending tweet was “unauthorized,” having been sent by the nameless staffer.
“Last night a member of Congressman García’s staff posted an unauthorized tweet from the Congressman’s account using profanities and offensive language to individuals living with disabilities,” she said. “The language used was absolutely inappropriate and inconsistent with Congressman Garcia’s history, values, and character. The individual responsible will be held accountable and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.”
