Nancy Mace ethics probe follows move to subpoena Ilhan Omar’s immigration records

A House committee’s decision to advance an ethics probe on South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace (R) came swiftly on the heels of her own failed effort to uncover alleged marriage fraud by a peer.

The death of an anti-U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement activist, and the subsequent violent protests, may have been enough for leftists to steer away from rampant fraud uncovered in Minnesota, but the investigations continued all the same. Included in the effort, Mace had found her own effort to subpoena Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D) immigration records squashed by the House Oversight Committee, only for an active referral against her to be extended in the aftermath.

Business Insider senior politics reporter Bryan Metzger highlighted the statement released by the chair of the House Ethics Committee, Mississippi Rep. Michael Guest (R), regarding a matter referred to the committee on Dec. 2, 2025, by the Office of Congressional Conduct (OCC).

“The Committee notes that the mere fact of a referral or an extension, and the mandatory disclosure of such an extension and the name of the subject of the matter, does not itself indicate that any violation has occurred, or reflect any judgement on behalf of the Committee,” read the statement regarding the unspecified ethics probe of the South Carolina gubernatorial hopeful. “The Committee will announce its course of action in this matter on or before March 2, 2026.”

Metzger had also shared a chart laying out how such matters proceed up to this point, indicating that a couple of reviews would have taken place after an initial investigation was prompted before the referral to the Ethics Committee.

As had been reported, Mace had sought to subpoena Omar’s immigration records, as well as those of her brother, Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi, amid allegations that the pair had immigration fraud and marriage fraud in addition to breaking numerous other laws.

“These allegations, if true, raise grave concerns involving potential federal marriage fraud, immigration, polygamy, incest, and tax violations,” said the congresswoman. “Knowingly entering into a marriage to evade U.S. immigration law is a felony punishable by prison time, substantial fines, denaturalization, and deportation. Marrying a sibling is illegal in every state. The American people deserve the truth about our elected officials.”

Mace had been the only “no” vote on the House Oversight Committee when it decided to motion to table her effort to subpoena the immigration records.

Having sought insight from the congresswoman’s office on the matter, The Hill indicated that it had been referred to a Nov. 21, 2025, press release wherein she had accused her former fiancé, Patrick Bryant, of influencing the OCC investigation over “lodging reimbursements,” seemingly as retaliation for her own public accusations that he was guilty of sexual assault. Bryant had filed suit against Mace over the allegations in early November.

“I incurred over $100,000 on lodging expenses in DC and received approximately $29,000 after taxes to get reimbursed for lodging expenses. Do the math,” the lawmaker had said in the November statement. “Bryant is terrified he might go to jail. And if he does, my female constituents will be safer for it. This just goes to show how broken the system is when a predator can viciously go after his victims in this way and is permitted to do so regardless of the facts.”

Mace had also made waves in the fall when she’d accused police at Charleston Airport of falsifying a report after she appeared to blow her top at Transportation Security Administration employees with a profanity-laced altercation when she was momentarily delayed while traveling on Oct. 30, 2025.
