Cushy perks were going by the wayside at the Pentagon as the latest move showed outlets including NBC News and The New York Times the door in favor of the New York Post and Breitbart News.
At the same time Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was dismantling the woke and divisive diversity, equity and inclusion agenda that had permeated the Pentagon, a decision about limited office space in Washington, D.C. did what leftists wouldn’t. With two weeks’ notice, the current occupants of offices for online, print, radio, and television news were expected to vacate to begin a new rotation program.
“In order to broaden access to the limited space of the Correspondents’ Corridor to outlets that have not previously enjoyed the privilege and journalistic value of working from physical office space in the Pentagon, beginning February 14, 2025, the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs will implement a new Annual Media Rotation Program for those dedicated media spaces,” read a memo to the Pentagon Press Association from Department of Defense spokesman John Ullyot.
As detailed, effective Feb. 14, 2025, NBC News, NPR, Politico and The New York Times were to vacate their physical office space, making room for Breitbart News Network, HuffPost News, the New York Post and One America News Network to take their places.
The Pentagon has informed its resident press corps that NBC, NYT, NPR, and Politico will “rotate out of the building” to give space to New York Post, Breitbart, OANN, and HuffPost.

Going forward, one outlet for the respective media would be granted the space for a year.
“To be clear, the outlets that vacate the spaces loaned to them by the Secretary will remain as full members of the Pentagon Press Corps,” explained Ullyot. “They will continue to enjoy the same media access to the Pentagon and will be able to attend and cover briefings and be considered for travel with civilian and military leaders in the Department as they have previously.”
The decision followed a change at the White House announced by press secretary Karoline Leavitt who explained that the “revolutionary media approach” of President Donald Trump would allow new media outlets to apply for press passes while reversing the revocation of over 400 passes from under President Joe Biden’s administration.
Breitbart News Washington Bureau Chief Matthew Boyle reacted with “A very special congratulations to our…Pentagon Correspondent @kristina_wong who is one of the hardest working journalists I know.”
Likewise, One America News Network President Charles Herring posted, “OAN looks forward to having office space at the Pentagon and will utilize full-time as soon as it’s available. OAN has operated a DC News Bureau since 2013. OAN continues to seek similar access extended to other national television news outlets operating daily in Washington, DC.”

In their own response to the rotation plan, NBC News stated, “We’re disappointed by the decision to deny us access to a broadcasting booth at the Pentagon that we’ve used for many decades. Despite the significant obstacles this presents to our ability to gather and report news in the national public interest, we will continue to report with the same integrity and rigor NBC News always has.”
HuffPost spokesperson Lizzie Grams noted the outlet did not have a Pentagon correspondent, but, “If the Trump administration and Secretary Hegseth are interested in more hard-hitting coverage of their stewardship of the Defense Department from HuffPost, we are ready to deliver.”
For their part, the Pentagon Press Association asked for a meeting with the Pentagon as they were “greatly troubled by this unprecedented move.”
The latest from the Pentagon coincided with a press release declaring “Identity Months Dead at DoD” effective immediately, ahead of the start of National Black History Month.
“Our unity and purpose are instrumental to meeting the Department’s warfighting mission. Efforts to divide the force — to put one group ahead of another — erode camaraderie and threaten mission execution,” detailed the release.
“Going forward, DoD Components and Military Departments will not use official resources, to include man-hours, to host celebrations or events related to cultural awareness months,” declared the statement before going on to add, “Service members and civilians remain permitted to attend these events in an unofficial capacity outside of duty hours.”
