Incoming House Oversight Committee chair James Comer, a Republican, revealed this week that he will subpoena President Joe Biden’s crack-smoking son, Hunter, but not the president himself once the GOP officially retakes control of the House in January.
He made the surprising admission Friday after being asked by CNN’s Pamela Brown whether there are any ongoing discussions “to eventually subpoena Joe Biden and or his son, Hunter Biden?”
Comer replied that he doesn’t plan to subpoena the president. But, he continued, he does plan to subpoena Hunter.
Listen:
“There’s no plans to subpoena Joe Biden. There are plans to subpoena Hunter Biden,” he said.
“And what does that timeline look like?” Brown then inquired.
“Well, I mean, you know, if I were Hunter Biden, I would want to come before my committee and prove my innocence, because I said some things today that should be very concerning to Hunter Biden,” the Republican congressman replied.
This prompted Brown to ask why, then, Comer doesn’t plan to just subpoena the president.
He replied by suggesting that, unlike Democrats, he has more respect for the office of the president. Recall how many times Democrats tried to get former President Donald Trump to testify.
“Well, it’s complicated to subpoena a president of the United States. … It has been done. And the Democrats sent out subpoenas like junk mail. And that’s why it’s hard to get people to come in,” he said.
Now, this doesn’t mean he won’t also be investigating the president.
“Congress, this committee will evaluate the status of Joe Biden’s relationship with his family’s foreign partners and whether he is a President who is compromised or swayed by foreign dollars and influence,” Comer announced Thursday.
“I want to be clear: This is an investigation of Joe Biden, and that’s where the committee will focus in this next Congress,” he added.

Speaking on Newsmax later Thursday, Comer offered even more clarity.
“Hunter Biden is a criminal. Joe Biden knew about it. When Joe Biden said from the White House press stand last week that he was confident his son’s innocent, I mean, innocent of what? He’s guilty of seven or eight very serious crimes,” he said.
“But the investigation is about whether or not this White House is compromised, and that’s a national security concern and that’s a concern that I think every American would have if they understood the severity of what all the Biden family’s been involved in over the past decade,” he added.
Listen:
So why exactly is Hunter Biden so important in all this?
Because “there’s mounting evidence that Hunter Biden was peddling access to our adversaries all over the world,” Comer explained during a Fox News appearance last month.
“The reason we are investigating Hunter Biden is because we believe he is a national security threat. But we are also concerned that Hunter’s shady business dealings have compromised Joe Biden,” he said.
“There are countless examples where Joe Biden has changed the rules, including Congress’s access to suspicious activity reports, which are bank violations that both Hunter and Jim Biden have committed. President Biden has blocked Republican oversight at every corner,” he added.
Hunter’s own former business partner, Tony Bobulinski, is for his part confident Comer’s investigation will prove to be extraordinarily fruitful given all the available evidence.
“Hunter Biden, in his own words, [has said] he is putting his entire family’s family legacy on the line to do business with the Chinese Communist Party [via] CEFC [energy conglomerate],” he said to Fox News.
“He says that in his own words, in numerous text messages and other things I’ve provided both to the FBI and other whistleblowers, so don’t take my word for it. The good news is Congressman Comer and Congressman [Jim] Jordan have troves of documents that will corroborate all this,” he added.
The bad news is Republicans are having to do this because the FBI are essentially letting Hunter off the hook. As previously reported, last month the agency announced that they had enough evidence to wring Hunter up on petty charges of committing tax crimes and making a false statement to purchase a gun.

The problem was these petty charges distracted entirely from the broader range of crimes that he AND his family members, including the president, are suspected of having committed.
“This whole issue is really not about Hunter Biden, and if there’s a talk about a plea deal with Hunter Biden, it’s to actually draw the sting away from the allegations, and the allegations are very serious,” famed attorney Harmeet Dhillon explained during a Fox News interview at the time.
“Dating back to the Obama years, the Biden family has been engaged in serious influence peddling with foreign countries. There are indisputable ties to China, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Romania,” she added.
