No charges yet after Walgreens employee shoots alleged shoplifter who was 7 months pregnant

Shoplifting has become a serious problem in many areas where prosecutors take a soft approach to pursuing such crimes, even leading to retailers shutting down stores in some cases. What these woke ideologues miss is the potential for escalation and that’s what occurred last week in Nashville.

The Music City was already reeling from a transgender shooter attacking a Christian school and killing six people, including three 9-year-old children, when a Walgreens employee shot an alleged shoplifter who was 7 months pregnant, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

“The wounded suspected shoplifter, Travonsha Ferguson, 24, is in critical but stable condition at a local hospital. Ferguson was seven months pregnant. An emergency C-Section was performed,” the MNPD said in a press release. “The child, who was not injured by the gunfire, is also in critical but stable condition.”

According to police, the employee said he fired because he was fearful one of them was armed after one of the women began spraying mace at him as he recorded them on his phone.

“The investigation to this point shows that Walgreens team leader Mitarius Boyd, 21, was notified by another employee that two females were stealing items from the store. Boyd said he saw the women placing items into a store cart and into a large over-the-shoulder bag,” the release explained. “Boyd said he began recording the women with his cell phone and followed them as they exited the store without paying for the merchandise.”

“Boyd said as the women began placing items into the trunk of their car, he made his way to the rear side of the vehicle. He said one of the women pulled a can of mace and began spraying it at him,” the statement continued. “Boyd said he then pulled his semi-automatic pistol and began shooting, saying he was in fear and didn’t know if they were armed. The women fled in the car. Boyd went back into the store and called 911.”

Boyd is cooperating with detectives, and his gun and his cell phone were seized.

“At the completion of the investigation, detectives will staff their findings with the District Attorney’s Office for a determination as to whether Boyd will face charges,” MNPD said.

While social media debated whether the use of force was justified, with few feeling any sympathy for Walgreen’s losses due to theft, the shooting brings to mind a refrain anyone carrying a concealed gun should consider before using their weapon: Are you willing to put the rest of your life in the hands of 12 jurors in today’s society?
