‘Not political at all’: MAGA supporters fume when judge issues ‘completely coincidental’ trial date for Trump

Former President Donald Trump‘s federal trial date is set to begin on March 4, 2024 – one day before Super Tuesday.

U.S. Judge Tanya S. Chutkan made the ruling on Monday, sparking immediate criticism from Trump supporters and freedom-loving Americans that the justice system is not blind when it comes to the former president.

Chutkan claimed the six-month timeframe was “far beyond what is necessary” to prepare while Trump’s attorney John Lauro vehemently disagreed.

“The trial date raises the likelihood that Trump will spend nearly all of the presidential primary season in a criminal courtroom,” Politico reported. “In addition to the trial in Washington, he’s slated to face jurors in New York on March 25 on charges stemming from hush money payments to a porn star, and he’s scheduled to stand trial in Florida on May 20 on charges that he hoarded classified information at his Mar-a-Lago estate.”

Meanwhile, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has not announced a trial date for the election case in Georgia.

Prosecutors have reportedly handed 12.8 million pages or files to Trump’s legal team in preparation for trial and believe that it was “substantially complete.”

“This is an enormous, overwhelming task,” Laura shot back.

According to Politico, Trump’s attorney “at times grew heated in his response, said there was no way he could be ready for trial without years to prepare. He noted that there are more than 250 government witnesses he has to research, as well as additional witnesses he may decide to call. He said he’s also in the process of drafting a long series of motions seeking to shrink the case against Trump or get it dismissed altogether.”

“This man’s liberty and life is at stake,” Lauro said, accusing Biden’s Justice Department of putting on a “show trial” against a political opponent.

“He’s no different than any American,” he said of Trump.

“J6 defendants have been rotting away in solitary awaiting trial for YEARS, but somehow Trump’s documents trial—which involves something like 60 million documents—magically gets scheduled for mid-2024? Mmmk,” tweeted the Federalist’s Sean Davis.

Chutkan, meanwhile, said she would be treating the former president just like anyone else in her courtroom and would not give any special consideration to the election schedule.

“Setting a trial date does not depend and should not depend on the defendant’s personal and professional obligations,” Chutkan said. “Mr. Trump, like any defendant, will have to make the trial date work regardless of his schedule.”
