The best indication the public hearing held by Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s politically motivated House select committee investigating Jan. 6, 2021, didn’t sway public opinion ahead of the November midterms is that the Democrats plan the second round in September.
Having assumed the role of arbiters of the truth, the committee pushes forward with the same moral clarity that drove the Russian collusion hoax, saying there’s so much more to come that a second season of their one-sided Soviet-style show trial is warranted.
“As we made clear throughout these hearings, our investigation goes forward,” said U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., chairman of the committee. “We continue to receive new information every day. We continue to hear from witnesses. We will reconvene in September to continue laying out our findings to the American people.”
The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol plans to hold more public hearings in September, the panel’s chairman, Rep. Bennie Thompson, says during tonight’s opening remarks.

Thursday’s prime-time hearing marked the panel’s eighth and final episode of the planned summertime hearings, focusing on former President Donald Trump’s actions after giving a speech at the Stop the Steal rally up until he released a video on Twitter asking protestors to go home.
U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., one of two “Pelosi Republicans” on the committee, seconded Thompson’s claim when she declared, “Doors have opened, new subpoenas have been issued, and the dam has begun to break.”
It’s official: there were will be more Jan. 6 hearings in September.
Liz Cheney says it’s because the “dam has begun to break.”
“Our committee will spend August pursuing and merging information on multiple fronts before convening in September,” she said.

Thompson has earlier told reporters that they will do a “scaled-back” preliminary report before it releases its full report, which is expected to be in September — as voting begins in earnest.
The trouble is, with 40-year high inflation and skyrocketing gas prices, and a mired of other problems ushered in by President Biden and his Democratic administration, Americans have largely lost interest in a protest that temporarily got out of hand and have more important things on their plate — such as trying to put food on their table and keep gas in their cars.
Here’s a sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:
