Potential Kamala veep likens socialism to ‘neighborliness’

The mainstreaming of socialism by the Democrats is picking up steam and a top contender to be Kamala Harris’s running mate seems to believe that it’s downright neighborly.

Putting a sunny spin on a political ideology that has led to the death of tens of millions of people throughout history, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz raised eyebrows with his remarks during a Monday night “White Dudes for Harris” call.

“Don’t ever shy away from our progressive values,” Walz said. “One person’s socialism is another person’s neighborliness.”

The governor’s remarks come after Democrats booted Joe Biden from their ticket in favor of his far more left-wing veep who takes over a party that has increasingly become more openly socialist since the 2016 Bernie Sanders campaign and the arrival of former bartender Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) on the scene two years later.

With the ascension of Harris, the mask is now fully off and even a guy known for his homespun demeanor like Walz now feels free to throw the word around, a term that once would have been political suicide to anyone who uttered it in a positive context.

Walz’s glossing over the evils of socialism was slammed by X users.

“Neighborliness killed members of my family,” wrote journalist Karol Markowicz who grew up in the Soviet Union.

“One person’s gulag is another person’s vacation home,” said conservative commentator Ryan James Girdusky.

Buzz has been building that Walz will get the nod as Harris’s running mate with the party needing a token white guy to balance out the ticket to make her an easier sell to swing voters while other top contenders like Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) – who has China issues – and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro – who’s Jewish – are problematic.

Walz also hails from a state that Republican nominee Donald J. Trump has made inroads in with the election likely to be decided in a handful of Midwestern and Rust Belt states where he could appeal to white working-class voters.

According to polls and surveys, socialism has become increasingly popular with the younger Americans that Democrats are seeking to recruit with Gallup recently finding that socialism is as popular as capitalism among young adults.
