Like a proud father, President Donald Trump displayed his new $5 million “gold card” while aboard Air Force One on Thursday.
“For $5 million, this could be yours. That was the first of the cards. You know what that card is? It’s the Gold Card, the Trump Card, Gold Card,” Trump told reporters.
When asked who the first buyer was, the president shot back, “Me.”
“The second?” the reporter asked in a follow-up.
“I don’t know, but I’m the first buyer. It’ll be out in about less than two weeks. Pretty exciting, right?” Trump bragged. “Anybody want to buy one?”

“President Trump introduced these Gold Cards in February 2025, as an opportunity for wealthy foreign citizens to work and live in the United States, granting them permanent U.S. residency and effectively replacing the EB-5 immigrant investor visa program,” Forbes reported back in March.
U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick announced the sale of 1,000 Gold Cards at the time, raising $5 billion in a single day — Lutnick estimated that 37 million people worldwide can afford to buy the Gold Card, according to Forbes.
“From a purely economic perspective, the numbers are compelling. If 200,000 Gold Cards are sold at $5 million each, the resulting $1 trillion could make a meaningful dent in the national debt. Scaling the program to 10 million cards would generate $50 trillion, theoretically erasing the debt entirely and freeing up resources for infrastructure, education, healthcare and other critical investments,” the news outlet noted.
Imagine that, immigration working for America in a positive manner for a change.
Either way, it has to be better than just opening our borders to the world, with God only knows who’s coming across — the one certainty is that most are poorly educated, unskilled and broke, with more ending up receiving government assistance than the media will ever share.
Either way, people are still a bit skeptical of the idea. Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on the social media platform X:
This seems so weird to me I actually want to say something snarky – but as with everything else president Trump is usually right so I won’t

President Trump has some pretty brilliant ideas for revenue building. I remember the gold shoes. They sold out fast! Hope this happens with the gold card!

I need details. Are businesses going to buy this and bring in foreign workers? Are wealthy foreigners bringing 1000 of their family members? We have 20 million illegals to remove we shouldn’t be letting ANYONE in for years

I don’t know how I feel about this. Mixed emotions
