‘Knives are out’ for Hegseth as White House reportedly searches for election fall guy

Tongues are wagging over the future of Secretary of War Pete Hegseth following devastating losses for Republicans in the midterm elections.

According to several reports, the White House is privately mulling the ouster of Hegseth for his overseas direction of the war with Iran.

“Knives are definitely out for [Hegseth] among senior West Wing staff,” a source close to the White House said, according to the New York Post. “I don’t know if it’s a foregone conclusion that he’s gone.”

President Trump is reportedly mulling all options regarding Hegseth as he and Vice President J.D. Vance both acknowledged the war’s negative impact for Republicans.

“Somebody has to own this,” another source told the Post. “When the word ‘war’ is in your title, then you might be the person in the crosshairs.”

As for Trump, he’s keeping any such alleged decision close to his vest and praised Hegseth shortly after the election results.

“I think he’s doing a very good job,” Trump told reporters on Wednesday.

But another White House official admitted to Fox News Digital that the results “would have looked very different without the Iran War. That will play out in the lame duck,” he predicted.

“Hegseth is on the chopping block,” another White House official told Fox Digital.

Hegseth’s no-nonsense approach to using military strength has been a source of controversy, including his recent support of live-streaming the execution of  Fort Hood terrorist Nidal Hasan.

Despite being an easy target for a scapegoat, Hegseth still has plenty of support on X:

“She knows the blackmail playbook and who is running it,” Politics on X said about Data Republican.

“The same forces that tried to sink him during confirmation are now pushing to make him the fall guy for a war Trump ordered and the military executed.

“Hegseth destroyed Iran’s military capacity.

“The chain of command is clear: civilian control. Blaming the SecDef for the decision to go in, or for the political fallout, is the setup.”

Data Republican acknowledged the above post, stating, “That’s right. SECWAR Hegseth is my own red line.”
