Ramaswamy could be out at DOGE, CBS News reports

A supposed shakeup before things even started had corporate media and President-elect Donald Trump saying two different things about the future leadership of DOGE.

In the weeks since Trump’s sweeping Election Night victory over outgoing Vice President Kamala Harris, considerable time has been spent criticizing staffing nominations and plans that the majority of Americans supported at the ballot box.

The day before the inauguration, when earnest work could begin toward, among other things, cutting government waste, CBS News suggested one of the first cuts by the Department of Government Efficiency could be its own named co-head, Vivek Ramaswamy.

Tapped by Trump to lead in attaining $2 trillion in cuts from the federal budget alongside Elon Musk, the outlet detailed concerning the businessman, “Vivek Ramaswamy, President-elect Donald Trump’s choice to co-lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) with entrepreneur Elon Musk, is expected to soon step away from the task force, CBS News has learned. Ramaswamy intends to announce a campaign for Ohio governor as soon as the end of January, multiple sources confirmed to CBS News.”

Asserting there had been no comment from Ramaswamy, CBS News, which is facing a $10 billion lawsuit from Trump over the edit of Harris’ appearance on “60 Minutes,” went on to report, “People close to Musk have privately undercut Ramaswamy for weeks, frustrated with his lack of participation in the heavy lifting, according to sources familiar with the internal dynamics. There has been friction between the incoming rank and file DOGE staff and Ramaswamy, the sources said, and Ramaswamy has been subtly encouraged to exit.”

However, the GOP leader told a much different tale during his Make America Great Again Victory Rally in Washington, D.C. where, after talking about DOGE and Musk, who had been invited on stage to speak, Trump said, “And he’s a great guy. And we have him and Vivek and some great people working on a thing called costs. And he’s got the credibility to do it too. We’re gonna do things that are really amazing.”

Days earlier, the one-time candidate for president, who was said to have been a favorite to fill the vacated Senate seat of Vice President-elect J.D. Vance for which Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) had instead selected his own Lt. Gov. Jon Husted (R), called out a fake announcement about running for governor.

“I am officially announcing my candidacy for governor of Ohio. I am ready to lead with vision, integrity, and a commitment to addressing the needs of every Ohioan. Together, we can build a brighter future for our state,” the account posted, leading Ramaswamy to react, “Note — the below is a parody account. (Not a bad idea, though).”

In their own report foreshadowing an upcoming departure by Ramaswamy, Politico noted that the businessman had been present at “an all-hands DOGE meeting” in D.C. on Saturday that Musk had not attended before citing an insider who said the former was handling deregulation while the latter was in charge of the big picture.

On the heels of disputes over the debt ceiling and H-1B visas, reactions on social media continued to find fault with corporate media, alleging efforts and “division and doubt.”
