‘Rotted at its core’: House GOP drops massive report detailing alleged abuses, politicization of FBI, DOJ

With just days left before the midterm elections, House Republicans have dropped a 1,000-page bombshell report detailing via FBI whistleblower allegations the “politicized bureaucracy” and rampant misconduct that has overtaken the Biden administration’s FBI and Department of Justice.

According to House Judiciary Committee Republicans, the report is “the first comprehensive accounting of the FBI’s problems to date, which undermine the FBI’s fundamental law-enforcement mission.”

“The report primarily concerns FBI abuses, due to the experiences and roles of whistleblowers, but also examines the actions of the Justice Department where appropriate for context and explanation,” the House members explain.

Speaking on “Fox & Friends,” House Judiciary Committee ranking member Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said that the report “just shows how bad things have gotten at the FBI and the DOJ.”

“It’s all driven by politics now over there,” he said.

In its “Executive Summary” of the massive GOP report, the House Republicans write, “The Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the stewardship of Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland, is broken.”

“The problem lies not with the majority of front-line agents who serve our country, but with the FBI’s politicized bureaucracy,” the report continues. “The problem lies, for example, with the FBI hierarchy that spied on President Trump’s campaign and ridiculed conservative Americans. The problem lies with FBI bureaucrats who altered and mischaracterized evidence to federal courts, circumvented safeguards, and exploited weaknesses in policies governing investigations and informants to target politically disfavored subjects and to protect favored ones. The problem lies with the FBI structure that centralizes high-profile cases in D.C., in the hands of politicized actors with politicized incentives.”

“Quite simply,” the report states, “the problem—the rot within the FBI—festers in and proceeds from Washington.”

Included in the report is testimony from whistleblowers who say FBI leadership in the nation’s capital is “rotted at its core.”

A “systemic culture of accountability” is present at the bureau, which is mired in “rampant corruption, manipulation, and abuse.”

Within the report is story after story from whistleblowers who are accusing the FBI of targeting conservatives.

While some of those allegations have already come to light — such as those that accuse the FBI of pushing its agents to reclassify cases that don’t meet the criteria as “domestic violent extremism” — others are new.

For example, one “key takeaway” from the report, according to the GOP House members, is that the FBI is “purging employees who refuse to align themselves with the leadership’s political ideology.”

Another is that “the FBI [is] helping Big Tech to censor Americans’ political speech.”

The report also highlights claims from whistleblowers who say the bureau is pulling resources away from criminal investigations for the purpose of “political meddling.”

In one disturbing instance, a whistleblower recalled he was “told that child sexual abuse material investigations were no longer an FBI priority and should be referred to local law enforcement agencies.”

“Equal justice under the law is a cornerstone of American rule of law,” the report contends. “By ‘purg[ing]’ its ranks of conservative employees, shaping big tech’s censorship of conservative viewpoints, and uneven law-enforcement actions and litigation targeted against conservative states, the FBI is failing to live up to this standard.”

“In doing so,” it argues, “the FBI is carrying out the Biden Administration’s plan to suppress dissent to its woke, leftist agenda.”

“This report begins to accumulate the details of what is publicly known and what multiple whistleblowers have disclosed to Committee Republicans about the ills facing the FBI and its senior leadership,” the GOP report states. “Whistleblowers have seen how ‘political meddling’ is distracting and ‘pull[ing] away’ resources from the FBI’s traditional functions. They have described how senior FBI leadership is ‘purging’ employees with conservative views. They talk about how the FBI leadership targets conservative Americans with aggressive law-enforcement tactics while treating liberal Americans with kid gloves.

“These whistleblowers want the FBI restored to the agency they ‘came into,'” the lawmakers state. “These whistleblowers—and the brave men and women along whose side they serve—are assets to our nation. It is now time for FBI leadership to live up to the example of these agents in upholding the Constitution and the rule of law.”
