A Democratic city council member from San Francisco, a self-avowed democratic socialist, is frustrated because his call to ban the famed Blue Angels from flying over his city went viral.
To hear District 5 Supervisor Dean Preston tell it, what happens in the liberal city is no one’s business if they don’t reside there.
The popular U.S. Navy squadron was scheduled to participate in a Fleet Week show on Sunday, but their appearance was canceled due to weather conditions. Subsequently, the liberal politician felt compelled to declare in a tweet: “The Blue Angels should not be allowed to fly over San Francisco. That’s it. That’s the tweet.”
Suffice it to say, his take didn’t fly so well outside the America-hating left, with Preston being taken to task by social media users who pointed to the myriad of problems facing the Golden Gate City.
His response? Aside from white liberal playing the race card — that’s a given — Preston complained about people with “no connection to the Bay Area” having an opinion and worse yet, daring to criticize local elected officials.
“Why are so many people who are outside San Francisco with no connection to the Bay Area so focused on San Francisco housing policy and constantly attacking SF tenants, BIPOC residents, and progressive local elected officials? It’s really strange.”

It’s almost as if the Democrat doesn’t realize that Twitter is not limited to San Francisco, though his response seems to expose the reality that he exists in his own little progressive bubble. On a more positive note, there’s hope yet that liberal voters can have an epiphany after San Francisco voters booted pro-criminal District Attorney Chesa Boudin earlier this year in response to crime overtaking their city.
What’s not so strange is that if you ask a question after stirring up a dust storm you can expect a few responses… though Preston is probably not going to appreciate the views pouring in.
Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:

Note how Dean hides behind folks who are most hurt by the policies of NIMBY supervisors.
He's spent $20K of his own money to put a ballot measure up to distract from @SFBOS inaction on housing. https://t.co/tqLGQIUHvz

“why do so many people care about my failed policies that have caused rents and homelessness to skyrocket as my single family mansion has tripled in value?” https://t.co/v0Nn7h2YEq

Hi, I live in SF and would love it if you took a "listen and learn" approach on policy rather than acting like you're engaging in mortal combat. It is completely unsurprising to me that people who care about housing and SF would engage with those who can act on both. Not strange! https://t.co/jnBha3SsN0

Genuine answer: SF is ground zero for the housing shortage in the United States, and elected officials there continue to make excuses to do anything but build enough housing to keep up with economic growth. No one else wants their own electeds getting the same idea.

Any actual citations of people “attacking SF tenants, BIPOC residents”? The criticism of allegedly progressive elected officials I see is because their (your) policies have contributed to making SF and coastal CA unaffordable for low and middle income residents…

Starting to think you’re more of an influencer with veto power over a city government rather than a politician interested in solving problems.
I don’t see you responding to any replies. Are you actually interested in answers to the questions you ask?
