Saudis know what’s up: Mobile McDonald’s set up for Trump’s arrival

The Saudi Arabian government set up a mini, mobile McDonald’s in honor of President Donald Trump’s arrival in Riyadh on Tuesday.

The mobile McDonald’s was housed in a double-staircase trailer that featured the words McDonald’s in English and Arabic.

According to Newsweek, the trailer “was parked outside a media hub called ‘Media Oasis,’ where journalists were hosted amid video screens showcasing Saudi mega-projects like the futuristic NEOM city and the upcoming 2034 FIFA World Cup.”

The Saudis purposefully chose to deploy the mobile McDonald’s presumably because of Trump’s penchant for the fast-food chain. It’s not clear, though, whether the president ate from the restaurant while there.

The president has long loved McDonald’s, as evidenced by the number of times the fast-food chain’s food has found its way into the White House.

In his memoir published in 2022, the president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, further revealed that Trump’s favorite McDonald’s meal was a “McDonald’s Big Mac, Filet-o-Fish, fries, and a vanilla shake,” as reported at the time by the Washington Examiner.

Trump famously served national college football champions a buffet featuring McDonald’s in 2019. A year later, in 2020, he reportedly requested McDonald’s after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

And then most famously, during last year’s presidential election, Trump donned a McDonald’s apron and got to work working the drive-through at a McDonald’s in the battleground state of Pennsylvania.

Returning to the present, Trump arrived in Riyadh very early Tuesday morning.

Video footage posted to X around 3:00 am that morning by White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino showed Air Force One being escorted to its landing spot by Saudi F-15 fighter jets.

Trump is expected to spend four days total in the Middle East. The first day began in Riyadh, where he was greeted upon landing by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Trump later attended an investment conference during which he announced that the Saudi Arabian government intends to invest $600 billion in several deals with the U.S.

“With the help of the people of the Middle East, the people in this room, partners throughout the region, the golden age of the Middle East can proceed right alongside of us,” Trump said at the forum.

“We will work together. We will be together. We will succeed together. We will win together, and we will always be friends,” he added.

Ali Shihabi, a Saudi author and commentator who reportedly was invited to greet Trump, stressed the importance of the visit.

“The visit is highlighting the strength of the relationship [between the United States and Saudi Arabia] and adding ballast by creating a continuously expanding web of ties in the economic, political, and security fields,” he said in an interview, according to Bloomberg.

The visit is in fact Trump’s first major excursion abroad since assuming office for the second time in late January.

Social media users responded to the mobile McDonald’s by praising Trump for having the clout to inspire the Saudis to do such a thing.
